11 years is a good run for a clutch cable

Snapped on me last night so was the first tow truck ride home for my car since I bought her 11 years ago. One of the things I did when I bought it was put on a clutch cable.

so now I need anoter I see some ranging from 23 bucks to 180. There is a middle of the road one by GEMO for about 50 bucks ! any feedback positive or negative on what our host offers ?

Id love to get an OE Porsche one but I think 185 USD is a little steep. so hoping an aftermarket one gets good reviews.

Gemo - Recommended

In the middle of the same project, but fortunately I'm replacing mine due to stretch vs. failure.

Based on my search on the forum - Gemo seems to be good quality. Recommendation in insight from Danskman toward the bottom of the first page of this thread (there are others - search the forum for Gemo):

Clutch Cable Investigation

Good luck,

Gordo

Where did it break?
I just replaced mine because it was 31 years old and it appeared to be in perfect shape. You can have it. OEM 1986!
I just went to the dealer.

Our Host offers two clutch cables, Porsche and GEMO. Big price difference.
I recently purchased another GEMO product based on the same kind of price difference, when it showed up it was in a package marked URO.
If I had known this, I would have probably sprung for the higher end Porsche item.
URO at times, does not have the best reputation for quality.
Perhaps this has changed?

Rod she snapped right at the bend under the transmission , about 6 inches from the end.
How much did you pay at the dealer ? I imagine the price in CAD was significant.
if its URO cable I would be concerned too , at least get a backup

I wonder if water got in there and there was corrosion? I had this happen on a speedo cable once.
Not sure how much I paid for mine Clive, I picked it up a few years ago when the dealer sent coupons to UCR members.
Don't buy the same on you did before.

I can't even remember what I had for lunch. Never mind what cable I ordered 11 years ago.
Looks like the cable was rubbing right on the bend and wore a hole in it from the inside . Then water gets in and it's all over.
Maybe better routing next time will help.

I'd say 11 years is a bad run!

Just a quick update. Got the new cable and was pleased to see it's twice as thick as the one I took out.
I'm concerned that when it snapped something inside broke
When I put my engine and transmission in the car after a rebuild late last year everything went smooth as silk. This time when I tried to set my preload of 1 mm I would press the clutch go back under and the 1 mm was gone. After an hour of messing around I realized the cross shaft is now binding. ( I think that's what it's called. ) the small spring can not pull it back but if I pushed really hard with my hand or leveraged it with a screwdriver it would move back with a loud click.

Eventually I gave up. Set it up with the 1.0 mm and moved on. Set up the 25mm travel and wrapped it up.
one thing that confused me .. you are supposed to set the gap against the lever at 1.2 mm with no cable attached but with no cable attached that lever seems to keep moving until the omega spring binds against the heat exchanger , no matter how much I "adjust " the exchanger it just keeps on going !! what am I missing ?
