I thought someone turned down the volume the last time a Formula E race was on TV.
Not getting it. |

Flipped TV to formula E last week. As exciting as watching paint dry!

I guess this is not that much of a surprise. Not a whole lot more to be accomplished there. It would be nice to see the RSR cars do better at LeMans though.
I am wondering if Porsche will start building engines for F1 - McLaren team maybe?

Mercedes is out of DTM in 2018 to go Formula E as well. I guess it's the future of racing :-/
I've watched a few races....they're ok, but I'm old and I like loud ![]()

The Formula E race I tried to watch reminded me of my son's slot car races 25 years ago.

To me, racing without the noise isn't racing

Hard to put into words, social pressure leads to Formula E.
If anyone watches it they don't show lap times or speeds. Not that it would matter as they race on street courses no other series race on. Better the nothing but just barley!

The pit stops are ....interesting...?
No recharge, no tire change - just go to the next garage and hop in a fresh car and rejoin the electric parade. Bill K

Sad day, not sure that Formula E can ever match the prestige of Le Mans......

I think if they perhaps kept the same car and had to swap out battery packs (similar to refueling during pit stops), it might be better. But, if racing improves the cars, there may be some benefit by switching to electric. An electric motor can sound pretty good if it's really screaming at some amazing RPM range. There's a video of an electric 911 that sounds pretty wild.

So time for LeMans to introduce an "E" class as well, but the "E" should stand for environment, not electric. This way the electric cars can duke it out with the hydrogen cars. That would at least promote the development of environmentally friendlier cars.

If they open up the rules a bit to promote innovation, technology, and development it could be a lot more interesting. The packaging flexibility of electric power allows for some wild looking stuff.
Electric drive tech that could filter into production like the Mission E concept is fine by me. I'm not afraid of the future. Also yes, please hot swap packs. I'm sure there are safety concerns with a 440lb mass being properly secured, but sounds like a great challenge.

If they were to put loudspeakers with engine sounds on the cars that mimicked fossil powered cars it might be worth a look. And add some sort of scent dispenser to mimic the smell of racing fuel.... maybe worth a look.

Sounds like RC cars going around a track and not exciting. Sound adds to the experience.

Seems to parallel Porsche's recent commitment to electric for street cars -- its rapid charging platform for the Mission E car (see, e.g. Porsche Unveils First 350-kW Charging Stations for Mission E Electric Car - The Drive) already sounds promising -- if racing can lead to the development of exponentially more rapid charging (and inductive charging to-wit) to support the demands of endurance racing, could be a true game-changer across the board.

I read a possibility is WEC/ Lemans may make the GTLM the Top class with more Factory Teams participation and more wanting to play. Might explain why Porsche made a huge investment in the mid-engined RSR.

I see that... I'm just saying that the news around the webz it just saying that Porsche is dropping out of LeMans completely. I've already seen other outlets on social media (including our host) posting info that makes it seem like no Porsches will be racing in LeMans next year.
As for Formula E... it's kinda cool that you can hear the tires screech around corners. I also find it odd that there aren't any gears to change.... and I had read that initially it was simply one pedal that when let go, would bring the car to a complete stop and when pushed, would engage the battery. Absolutely no individual brakes, but all braking would be done through the drivetrain... on and off.
