Porsche Music...real loud!

Well I started on the interior of my car, removed all carpet, insulation, and sound mat material...and was thinking the car would look good with a nice clean paint (matching exterior) and roll bar....a clean race look and less weight.

Well tonight I took her for a drive...holy crap it's loud! I was impressed by the music of the motor and I love the sound, but I am going to have to go with some carpet at least...I swear I could hear every sound the motor makes.

Eric has done a great job on his, and he did tell me it would be loud as hell...it is! I guess the track guys like Chris don't notice it because of the helmet.

So off to the shops this weekend to find some material and 3m glue.

Hahaha LOL, now try taking the muffler off like I have! Thats loud, but the cat takes just enough edge off to keep it from being noticed by the wrong people.

I did...but I have not seen a single 911 part in a junk yard in this area!
Plenty of 924, 944, and BMW's to pick from though!
Maybe Harald has a good source to find them?

In a few months you'll lose your hearing and won't care...

Or look around at general aviation shops for lightwt. sound deading material. There's a stero sound deadener palce in Bend, Ore. that has light wt. stuff.

Also, try just the engine sound pad and see (or hear).

cool Randy, I was thinking that just the rear deck and wall should need the cover material with a little extra something...and the rest could just be covered with a light material to match.

The data in the CD-type disc decodes easily into ASCII computer text as follows, using 8 bit binary:
*
"Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. (Damaged Word). There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING (BELL SOUND)”
*
The damaged word would appear to be intended as “BELIEVE”.

K-9

Did you notice a difference in handling/acceleration/braking when you removed the back seat, sound pad, carpeting, etc?

Thanks.

Dynomat is heavy.

I'll be interested in the new volume level in BB2, with no sound deadening, and the entire rear seat cut out and replaces with an aluminum panel. Add to that monoball bushings instead of rubber, front and rear. And the solid motor mounts in back. Yikes.

Jack....that's going to be loud! Ha Ha...but like I said the sound is kinda nice. You can hear everything...in fact I think I can hear the rotor clicking at it passes each post in the distributor...Ha Ha.

I have not really been able to try anything other than the little quick trips...I would guess that she is lighter though since the back end sits a little higher than before. As far as how many pounds...I would guess between 60-80. Then once I switch out the heavy stock seats...I think that's good for another 40 lbs or so.

So have you painted the inside yet? Does it look good or are there places where it just doesn't look right.

I was thinking of doing the same thing - removing all the carpets etc and go for a race style looking interior but I'm just not sure how far I will have to go...eg removing the door pockets will leave the door covers looking yuck so then do I remove the door covers and go with RS style, then do I........etc etc...

I'd love to see some photos of interiors where there has been an attempt at a balance between race and daily driver styling...if there is such a thing.

I've got a weeks holiday so maybe I should just get to it and see where it takes me. Should always be able to go back if I needed to right

my digital camera is broken, otherwise I would post pics.
The pan and rear deck are the same color as the exterior...just has a few spots of adheseive around the rear area, and the pans are still dirty with years of dust and muck. The other thing is the front seat mounts and where the floor pan meets the front of the lower dash is painted black? It's like the areas were hit with a light coat and overspray...but that would be a simple fix with a new layer of paint. I am thinking of a nice coat of POR-15 and then a layer of the carpet material like Eic McKenna did...great looks, and much lighter than all the original stuff.

I am surprised Eric hasn't chimed in. My old car had all the sound deadining removed (still had carpet though) and a Bursch muffler. I loved it! Hardly ever turned on the radio. My son would run to the front door when I was still two blocks away!

I used tar sheet pieces ($40/big roll from JC Whitney-I have extra) over the scraped and POR15'd floor.
Over that went a layer of (3/4in?) professional carpet padding. The extra may go in the doors but I'm not sure. It is extremely fiberous and leaves a nasty cloud every time the roll is moved.
The doors and roof under the headliner got the tar paper too.
I also got foam sheets that go under hardwood floors-thin and lightweight so it worth a try. Probably not too bad when combined with the spray-on sound deadner from the stereo shops.
Sound is strange in that a low vibration will produce the annoying rattle somewhere else in the car.

HAHAHAHA!, brother I told ya it would be loud.. it DOES sound good but when ya get out yer ears hummm like you have ben to a ROCK concert!
the little bit of carpet I placed back in does seem to work.. but she is still well you can hear the motor well... I tell people before they go for rides that if you don't like the sound of my car.. then we'd better take yours hahaha. I LOVE it though, but I have issues! .
Smitty,
Man I'd place for sure some carpet in .hahaha.. forget the sound pad! thats just putting weight back into the car..
show us some pics when ya get the chance,
and if yer gonna geta roll bar.. see if you can score an alloy one lighter and still keep the car nice and stiff.
Kepp up the good work!!
laters! Eric
