89 Porsche 930
I would like to get some advise for purchasing a 89 Porsche 930 cabriolet which is in mint condition and has 18000 miles and the asking price is $40,000. Could you give me an idea of the approximate value of the vehicle?

All I can say is that it's a relatively hard car to find as well as desirable, especially with low miles. I don't go by asking price...what price do you think you can get the car for? That's what counts.

I recently paid 34K for an 88 Cab with 52,000 miles and many of the typical performance upgrades. IMO the 89 is considerably better, since you get the G50 tranny. Standard disclaimer that everything is subject to a PPI, but I'd say an ask of $40K is pretty reasonable if the car is as mint as an 18,000 mile example should be.

Seems like a good price for so little mileage. I paid a little less for mine, but she had 49,000 miles. But the five speed is definitely the way to go.
My instructor at the DE last weekend hated watching me take turn 5 at Road Atlanta. Apparently he has to gear down to 2nd to take that turn and maintain speed. While I was not going anywhere near as fast, I was able to use 3rd gear. That extra 5th gear just makes all the lower ratios so much more "friendly". Or, as I said after each session, "Who needs an automatic transmission when you have 3rd gear and a turbo to back it up". What colour car are you looking at? Any modifications made to the motor or turbo? Trust me - you will want the K27-7200, a bigger intercooler & changes to the header/muffler. If not now, eventually. Boost addiction

the car is blue and tan, it has a B&B exhaust system, 17" HRE wheels, thank you for your feedback.

That sounds like a very good price--as long as it is in truly exceptional condition. Mint condition to me means the car is essentially in the same condition as when it left the factory. I know this is often debated, but a car like this is worth more to most people if it has no modifications. While things like modified exhaust and wheels may make the car perform better, the people who are willing to pay top dollar for a car, almost always demand cars that are original in every way. And things like a repaint, no matter how good the job, will drastically reduce the price.
Assuming that everything checks out, I don't think that you will ever lose any money on this car--unless, of course, you start driving it. |

That car, if truly "mint" and all original, is worth more than that in New York right now despite the soft market...easily.
