Need help finding pic of car from 65 Sebring race!!
Long story short....looking for a picture of Porsche 904 chassis 067 from this race. I believe it ran as car #45 and had a DNF with Gregg at the wheel. Some of you guys are great detectives...can anyone help? Thanks. Jim

It went out after 99 laps with a broken chassis. This picture of a model is a wild guess, though:

I can come close - I was given these by Harry Hannium who was a photographer for the Orlando Sentinal in the 1960s. He would cover Daytona and Sebring each year. I have a folder of photos from the 1965 Sebring race but not one of the 45. I do have one of a Porsche 904 #44 (Briggs Cummingham?) and the pit assignment sheet with the #45 car assigned to pit number 74.

Jim,
Judging by the orange color, I believe the photo of the model above is the Minichamps version of the Ben Pon 904 (chassis 055) that wore various numbers, including #45, but only for the '64 Nurburgring 1000K. Perhaps the ex-Barber/Gregg #45 car you're referring to is the one shown below that was offered, but didn't meet its reserve at auction in Monterey last August? If its the same car, Gregg ran it at numerous US events with several different co-drivers, from '64-'66. Good luck, Tim ![]() |

Wow what an incredible list of allstar drivers.
Some interesting bits... Mark Donohue covering all bases as a backup driver for BMC in the MGB, in case the 250LM broke I guess... Bob Tullius in a Spitfire... Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Makinen in an A/H Sprite... Lt.? Peter Gregg in a 904...Dr. Dick Thompson in a Cobra instead of a 'vette... John Fitch and Briggs Cunningham in a 904...

Thanks for the results link!
It's some pretty fascinating reading, not just for the usual suspects, but instead for some of the other entries that are shown. My favorites: -Tiny Lund, the Nascar driver, in a 250 GTO? (for 35 laps, at least) -Chuck Stoddard in an Alfa TZ? -One of my personal heroes, Toly Arutunoff, who was entered but didn't show with a Lancia Flaminia Zagato? Too bad, because he would have been guaranteed no worse than a second in class just by starting. ![]() Tim |
