![]() Hello, I have a 79 SC that has been lowered by a previous owner. The ride height, [from the ground to the fender lip] is 24 1/4 in the rear, and 24 1/8 in front. The car rides like crap. I recently installed a bump steer spacer kit and new front tires. The tie rod angle is better, but not perfectly horizontal. As a result of this I got a front end alignment done. The alignment shop says it cannot align to 0 camber, I have about a 2 degree negative camber on the front. I use the car for street use only and do not want to eat thru front tires with the front setup like this. Questions: 1. should I raise the front to be 24 3/4 so that it is the recommended 1/2 inch higher than the rear, 25 rear, 25 1/2 front seems to be the recommended height. 2. will raising the front allow my alignment to be done without so much negative camber ?? Anyway, as is the car rides much better, it just bothers me that the front is setup wrong. Thanks in advance for any help... |

I had my 78 SC aligned when I got a new set of front tires...they screwed it up! Took it to the p-mechanic and they did the job right. Take it to a Porsche mechanic and let them set the alignment and ride height to your desires.

To all your questions - yes.
The front should be 1/2 inch higher. Your existing height is lowered very aggressively, too much for the street. And so much so that you don't have enough range to get the camber to stock specs. 25 / 25.5 is a good street height. |

I have my 80SC set to 25/25.5, camber is -1.5 all the way around. This setup rides really nice and handles well. I so not seem to get uneven tread wear either. Raising the car will automatically decrease the negative camber. Best of luck

I once let an American-oriented shop do an alignment on my lowered euro. The laser on their equipment couldn't clear the chin spoiler so they raised the nose. I had the scariest highway drive of my life after that. Definitely make sure the shop is experienced with 911s.
Mine is lowered from original euro spec and I love it, there might be some changes to the US parts that will improve the ride. ------------------ Charlie Baer '79 Euro 911SC |

At what ride height would a BUMP STEER KIT be recommended? I heard that if the ride height is not 'too low', that the bump steer kit isn't beneficial? Any commments?
