Pelicanite and his 911 on television!
Those of you with sattelite tv (not me) might have seen this. But it's Pelicanite MMarsh (Michael Marshall) being interviewed as part of a program about a track day at Laguna Seca. Tyson Schmidt and I were also there that weekend (you might remember this artwork), but the TV program crew only had eyes for Mike and his R-Gruppe-decaled 911, which is extremely photogenic.
Here's the 2 meg clip, in Quicktime format. Or click on the picture:

Wow, I do remember seeing that show quite a while back. I just never made the (Pelican) connection. Cool! Way to go Mike!
FYI: The show was on the series "Ride of your life" on the Fine Living Network. There is a little blurb on it here. |

It's funny because over the last couple of weeks I've gotten about 10 Phone calls from friends and Co-workers telling me they have seen it. Kinda cool, I don't have Sattelitte TV, so I have no Idea when it airs.
In some of the background footage you can see BB1 and Tysons C2 in the background and there is also a shot of Tyson during the drivers meeting. That was a Fun Weekend, I'm looking forward to hitting the track again with my partners in crime(fighting) Edit: I thought being on Camera only added 5 lbs. You would never know that I'm 165 lbs in that clip.

Way cool clip! Watched that corkscrew in slo-mo a few times. Pretty insane. Do a lot of cars lose it there? Do you go into it blind? Beautiful piece of driving Mike!

BB80sc, yes the corkscrew is blind. And very scary at first. Then after that, it's just a blast!
Funny thing, Mike Marshall was riding shotgun with me on the second session of the first day. I wasn't familiar with it yet, but kind of thought that I was. We came over the crest, and my side was on the Dragons Teeth, and Mike's side was off in the ditch!!! Had to catch the car as we bounced in the air after re-entering the track over the Dragon's Teeth heading the wrong way. Didn't seem to phase Mike. Scared the crap out of me!!!

From the show. In the foreground is Tyson, silently contemplating whether or not he'll be man enough to try taking the corkscrew backwards with Mike Marshall in the passenger seat later in the day. Jack Olsen, behind him, has had to wake up before 10 am, and is simply trying to remember his first and last names.

That's toally cool. Great clip. Didn't know it was streetable. Couldn't catch his other comments in that part of the interview, but I think it sounded like "Once in a while I like to take it on the street and lay waste to everything before me."
No, wait, that's what I would have said.

Well that's about as unflattering as a still-frame can be. Looks like I'm working my chap-stick around. Either that or I just wet myself.
Jack's got his usual track-day "just combed my hair with my pillow" look going on. Lovely, just lovely.

Well gee Superman (Jim), I believe we've met.
But I presume you were referring to Jack and Mike. That was way back in December of 2001. It was the first time at Laguna Seca for all of us. We had a blast! (Oh, and I didn't exactly go through the corkscrew backwards, just came out pointing left when the track went sharply right. Had to do some emergency maneuvers to stay on-track. )

Quote:
Have you heard the term scared speechless. Actually I thought you were just trying out a new line through the corkscrew. The corkscrew is alot of fun, with the blind turn in and elevation change it is a total rush. The time we were there, I didnt see anybody lose it real bad, mostly just two wheels off coming out of it.
