Inside seal early 915 help
I have an early 915 that has the seal that needs to go in before the main shaft ( early)
Does anyone convert them to late type seal? With the removable t/o support. Thanks George |

The 1972 915 transmissions didn't have a removable guide tube where the main shaft exits the case and mates with the clutch. That means to replace the seal, you have to take the transmission completely apart to get to it.
Wevo modifies the case and adds a removable guide tube so you can replace the seal without disassembly. https://www.wevo.com/Products/TransmissionProducts/WevoTransmissionProducts-RaceCaseGuideTube.htm Mark

That tool is for mid-1973 to 1975. But if you have a 1972 to mid-1973, you have to get the seal out from the inside.
From his description, I assumed George has one of the early boxes. Mark

Hi John ..looks nice but if i would the owner of the early trany i would just think if i have to take the trany apart to send it out for this modification .Why not just replace the seal ??
The seal will last another 30 000 miles or more... Ivan |

The problem with the CMS fix is that it doesn't solve that problem. It makes it far less likely to fail and allows one to fit a later mainshaft with the other seal/seal location. However, with that circlip it still requires you to tear the box apart if there is a problem. It's a 90% fix.

Well in these days to get the correct quality seal is one thing , then guessing how long it will last...because the seals are really crap lately...
BTW.. George if you see this-you might? ..i still have the original trany seal in my stash. If you would like to have it -for free you are welcome to it... Ivan |

915 seal
Thanks for the help it looks like WEVO does the fix. Also some people may drive over 30 k miles with there 915 trans. Why not fit it so you don't need to refix it every 30 k miles?
I will get mine fixed thanks for the help. George |

Wevo's solution is the best option for the '72 915.
