Yes, I'm an idiot. 69 912 -> RSR Build

I'm an idiot. I decided to list my perfectly fine 993 (and maybe my 57K Mile 964) and instead dungeon myself off and work on my mint condition RSR copy.

Mint!!

Uh oh.

Jig is up!

Can I fix this? If someone sells or can make this bit of curved metal below quarter window I would really appreciate it!

Impressive body of work on hand there Pichu. I trust you are dauntless! ...and an exceptional metal fabricator. Perhaps you know this already and forgive me for being redundant if you do, keeping tub's form straight/symmetrical when working on that level of restoration is essential.

I was thinking there should be a support in that door opening??

That is a serious challenge. Will be very rewarding!

I'm right there with you buddy. RD Design makes a fair portion of the section you asked about. I have two of these panels and can measure them for you if you'd like?

OK so I gave up on that body, it would take a billion years to fix all the rust, so instead I got this!

It's totally solid, blasted, etched, primed and ready for paint. And I love the targa rear window, so gorgeous!!

I am converting it to a long hood, just some questions, I'm assuming I remove these bumper carriers for the new RSR bumpers?? And same for the front hood I need to add a latch carrier? I am doing more research as well and I have the parts from the old car to reference.

You can change the latch panel or get one of the back date hoods that is designed to use that latch panel. TRE sells them

I have been able to leave the bumper supports, I think I have had to trim them sometimes.

Hmm! I was thinking of just welding the latch back on my metal hood! Now that I see the fiberglass 'rear' latch hood I'm going to go ahead and do that, but the angle might be a bit off. Wonder if anyone has done that?

And for the rear, should I simple build/mold my own fiberglass mounts without doing too much metal cutting?

I have fiberglass RSR bits but I'm loving the more simple ST style bumper.

Dude - you really should be doing this to a coupe....these type of mods on a targa look a little off to my eye. Stock Targas look great.

I would instantly put on stock fenders/bumpers/hood etc but I just don't have them. I have this RSR kit so I'm going with that. I like the look of stock (big bumper!) Targas but right now I have a reallly rusty shell 912, and this reallly nice 74 911 Targa.

Maybe I should wait and source stock parts?? But my location is terrible for shipping or getting these parts. I can weld/body work so they don't have to be great shape.
