shifter linkage alignment- help!
Finally got the engine & box back in my '83 SC last weekend after spending 3 years completely stripping and rebuilding the car.
Went to reconnect the shifter coupling to the gearbox selector shaft (at the back of the tunnel inside the car) and the shifter tube/ coupling appears to be about 1" too high to connect the the selector shaft. The selector shaft sit's roughly central in the opening at the back of the tunnel so i don't think it's a problem with the mounting of the engine & gearbox. Now wondering if the shifter tube got bent while out of the car during the rebuild. Anyone got a picture of one they could post so i could compare it with mine? Any ideas? Thanks people, Jon Hawkins.

Jon, The shaft is not a straight shot. It has an upward angle to it as you are looking from the engine forward. You may have to rotate the shaft to get it re-aligned properly.

Do you have the Bentley for SC's? It shows some details of the shifter assembly.

Thanks for the response guys.
Michigan- yeah i tried rotating it but still no luck. When the shifter end is engaged the coupling end is approx 1" too high to meet with the selector shaft. it cant go down any further cos the connecting rod touches the floor about halfway along it's length. Gunter- no don't have the bently manual but ihave got a haynes and the factory ones. Shows the coupling assembly but not the whole shifter tube. If anyone has an SC shifter tube out of the car can they please post some pics of it. I'm fairly certain mine is bent but don't want to order a replacement till i'm certain. Thanks again, Jon.
