Have had the 70E for three weeks now and we spent a good portion of the day running around today, seems to run on the cool side, maybe maxed out at 190ish...is it just my bad hearing from jet noise or do the MFI cars sound different from webered cars? My 72 definitely sounded a bit different. think Im due for a servicing soon just to be up to speed on everything..I am sure it'll take me several days but am itching to try... Is there any reason why I cant figure out how to work on MFI myself?

Chris,
Since the velocity stacks of MFI are smooth without any rough or sharp transitions or protuberances in the air path to produce turbulence, unlike Webers, I think it is quite reasonable that the airflow would sound different ... to a degree especially noticeable when intake and exhaust tuning reach the 'sweet spot' of the cam tuning in the 4000-4500 rpm level! I have always felt the MFI induction 'note' is more resonant, intense, and fierce than other 911 engines, but not too many others have voiced such an opinion, except Roland Kuntz. As far as doing your own adjustments on the MFI goes, it is quite reasonable and desirable to do it yourself, but it does take a bit of reading and research to get up the learning curve! The following Pelican technical reference page has several megabytes of documents to be downloaded and printed. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_MFI/TipMFI.htm I recommend a large binder to hold it all ... and a few long night's worth of reading to get familiar with the system. Ultimately, you will need a set of the nominally-priced special tools Pelican sells and a Gunston gas analyzer to ascertain 'where' the CO levels are and which direction you need to go with the adjustments.
