Just saw the new VW/Chayenne
Just saw the new VW 4x4 on Motorweek(I don't know how to say the name) and it looks almost exactly like the Chayenne. It's on the same chassis and other than the front end I think you'd think it was a Porsche from the side.
Half the price of the P-truck. I think someone made a HUGE mistake over there.....hmmm? If this needs to be moved to OT sorry.

Call me crazy, but I am seriously looking at getting one of the VW's. 310hp. 19 inch wheels. And can tow over 6000 lbs! Depends whether it is allowed under the new tax credit SUV owners get that are self employed. If it is, I can buy it and deduct almost the entire amount as business equipement. Go Bush!

It's not going to qualify. It doesn't weigh enough.
The tax break that was originally proposed was meant primarily for small farmers. However, as with most bills, before it was passed it was modified. The modifications resulted in it being able to be more broadly applied. Now, pretty much anyone that runs a small business is eligible to take advantage of this. However, the vehicle must be at least 6,000 lbs. So, you're looking at Suburbans, H2s and other big mamas. |

Judging from photos of the exterior and interior of both, I think I'd go for the VW version. Looks better to my eye, and more powertrain options available.

The TDI version will be a huge hit in Canada, I had a TDI Jetta for my last job and no doubt that thing had to get 60 mpg and with that heavy diesel flywheel hills felt just like staight stretches. I think the one going in the VW is a v10 tdi can you say torque.

My accountant seems to think that the truck has to weigh 6000lbs.

I have been heavily investigating this new law and have come up empty as far as which vehicles are allowed. Even a Suburban's curb weight is not over 6000lbs, (God knows, I don't want to drive this or even an H2, tax laws notwithstanding.) GVW I assume is a fully loaded vehicle. To quote an article in our Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"The plan would mean small businesses could immediately deduct the entire price of SUV's like the Hummer H2, the Lincoln Navigator and the Toyota Land Cruiser, even if the vehicles were loaded with every available option. Or a business owner, taking full advantage, could buy a BMW X5 sport utility viehicle for a few hundred dollars more that a Pontiac Bonnevile sedan after the immediate tax deductions were factored in." So I suppose there is a sliding scale, over 6000 GVW? full deduction, under this weight, but still an SUV, a percentage intially and then a yearly amount? I have called a few dealers and my accountant, with no clear cut answers yet. Getting back to vehicle weight, the only SUV that has a curb weight over 6000lbs are the Hummers. Let me know if anyone else has any more information. A search on Google using the words "SUV", "Bush", "The Detroit Press", will pull up several articles, but they all seem from the same source. It would nice to pick up a Toureg or Cayenne and deduct the entire price of the vehicle of next years taxes. |

Tax Deduction..
The threshold is >6000LB GVWR, not actual weight. My ML320 qualifies, for crissake, at GVWR 6010 LBs.
Don't complain guys, take advantage of the tax laws, thats the American way!!! ![]() ![]()

Whatever you save in tax deductions you'll more than make up for at the gas pump (my humble and uneducated opinion).

Ok, I am considering upgrading the wifes Trooper with some other SUV. Does the new tax law work for used SUV's? And does anyone have a clear answer on what qualifies?
Thanks, Mark

Boy did you guys ever lead this thread astray....
Anyway my thoughts were buy the VW and an excellent Porsche example for 40K (that the VW could hall around if need be) and you'd still be cheaper than the Chayenne. Anyway...it's amazing what VW is coming up with soon there will only be two auto Companies North American and ROW ![]()

I stoped at a VW dealer and got a brochure. They are stating delivery in "Mid Spring". Unfortunately I have also read that they plan on bringing this car out 6 months after the Cayenne is out and as far as I know, that hasn't happened yet. It will come to to the US though.
