Expandable Oil return tube O ring replacement.

I noticed I already have the expandable Oil Return tubes on my car but would like to replace the O rings and re-install.

Any issues I need to know about?

Hi Willie - check out the link below for a helpful guide on the procedure (there is mention of the o rings too). If you have any questions about the guide, please feel free to post a Comment just below the article and one of our techs will get back to you with specifics. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Hi Willie
what ever you do do not start to remove the heat exch...unless your engine has been a part recently, you are asking for a trouble like broken exhaust studs.
TO REPLACE THE O RINGS ON TUBES JUST GET THE RIGHT TOOLS.
it is a job which pro can do in 20-40 minutes.
I do not mind to guide you trough it

Thanks Guys

Ivan I'm in the middle of putting new SSi's with a GT3 muffler from M&K. There is a very good article by Mark Jo on PPTA that goes through the oil line change and SSi change out. Patience patience patience..... The old stuff is off an no broken studs .
I did notice that I had some dipping on the drivers side. Now that everything is off an out of the way I notice that it is coming from the return lines. Some one at one point in time put on the expendables, so waiting for the O rings to come tomorrow and then I will try to remove these expendables and put new o rings on them. Didn't know if there was any tricks to getting these of without mess these up? I did order 2 new ones just in case Reading the article looks like to put a hose clamp on going in ....wonder if that works coming off?

Hi this is a different story and much easier for you.
Just get your self the green o rings nothing else. Also the best lubrication for the o rings is old nla Bosch grease or new version or Sachs grease. It will make much easier job to spread the tubes...to remove the clips use this pliers ...silver

You may not be able to contract the telescoping tubes to get them out. The inner o-rings take a mean set. Time will tell.

hi ..those pliers are good for removing the oil filter..Have them too.
Back to your oil tubes.
Personally i would replace them with factory colaps. tubes.Original tubes have much bigger inner o rings and do not really know if you can get the o rigs for these tubes...never liked them ,it is just me;-)

I still win! One drawer for pliers that just grip and the 2nd drawer is for the ones that can cut.

(And how can your "squeeze-n-crush" collection be complete with out one of the 20.5" Channel Lock 480 that say "Big AZZ" stamped right on the side!)

To the OP...
I didn't see anything in your post mentioning them actually leaking. If they aren't leaking don't touch them. If one or two are leaking only touch those one or two.
Don't go looking for a problem. Cars can provide problems all by themselves!!!

Good luck on getting those tubes to collapse back in so you can just replace the O rings... You may be needing those big azz pliers on the left to crush the tubes just to get them out. New ones aren't that costly anyway...

I wouldn't put myself through the aggravation. Just buy new ones.
Or I can sell you my old ones.

Also, just a note. Your collapsable tubes look to be aluminum. Our host sells the green seals for the steel collapsable tubes. Mine looked just like that, and after ordering a set of green seals, they simply didn't fit the old aluminum tubes. I ended up buying a new set of steel collapsable tubes from our host and installed them using the hose clamp and pry method without removing my heat exchangers. It was not a job I would do again. If I had the means I would pay a pro to get it done in an afternoon and save yourself the headache.

Another PP (argon roducts) vendor carries the aluminum return tubes so they should also have the O-rings.

For me, it looks Mickey Mouse those tubes....stick with the factory type...is my suggestion ...
