Thumbs up Steering wheel vibration fully cured - at last!!!

In case you remember my saga with steering wheel vibrations:

At last I have gotten rid of the steering wheel vibrations that have plagued me ever since I got the Cup1 wheels on my car. It turned out that the front tires were not completely round and had to be shaved to become fully round. At the same time I had the wheels balanced while on the car. It now drives as perfect with the cup1 wheels as it did before I got them. It surprises me that the tires were more egg shaped than round, but some of you had already suggested that to be the cause and you were right it seems.

It's wonderful that the car now runs perfect and all fixed for a small amount of money. I'm so happy...

You were able to get these tires shaved after they had been on the road? I'd always heard (and told others in turn) that no one would shave used tires because the dirt would dull their shaving knives. Have I been steering people wrong? -Chris

Hehe I don't know and I don't care about the tireshop's machine anyway

I guess there could be a connection since new tires are soft and clean whereas used tires are worn and dirty? Maybe the chance of succes is greater with new tires rather than used?

Anyway the job was done and my car now drives beautifully.

Cool

Here's a clue,

When drag racing, we would run the tires through the bleach box. Helps soften the tires?

Good luck,

Juan-

Just as above, it's probably an out-of-round tire. Since you said you have a new rack and tire rods, the only other causes that come to mind are warped rotors, warped hubs (from over-tightening lug nuts), unbalanced wheel spacers (if you use are using any), or worn bearings. Also, if you ever get a slow leak or flat, never use the "Fix-a-Flat" sealant stuff in a can for a temporary fix. The material will usually settle and dry in one area, totally ruining the tire balance. Plus if it is fixable by a tire shop, they will probably charge you extra to scrape out all the gunk!

The tires are Dunlop SP Sport 9000. Good in rain, good in dry weather, but prone to flat spotting even from standing overnight.

The tire guy told me that Dunlop in general were rather sensitive (flat spotting, in need of warming up etc.). Also he said that many tires in general aren't fully round for example having excess thread in "patches here and there".

I find it all rather confusing, but now my car runs fine again so - woohoo I don't care Of course I care, but I'm so happy now that my problems are gone.

If you think a tire is out of round go to your local discount tire or tire of america they will be able to tell if it is oor and adjust it at the same time
