Any pic of tow hitches on 911's?
I have a friend that is going to be pulling his track tires behind the 911 in true (CLUBSPORT) style .. drive to track, and race then drive her home.. and take her to work the next day.. hahah
So does anyone have any ideas nd or photo's of this type of set up on a 911 for a tow hitch, one That you can put on and take off, (while on the track) that would allow him to tow the wheel carrier behind the 9? Thnaks in advance! Eric,

I have a hitch on my 85 carrera, made by southsport trailers. There phone number used to be (407) 330-2322- I assume it is still there.
The hitch mounts above the muffler, and extends to both sides of the car, where it connects to the frame through preexisting holes. You cut a hole behind the license plate. With the plate on, the entire hitch is completely invisible- you can't even see it from under the car. You take the plate off, plug the hitch into the receiver and away you go. I pulled a track trailer- 4wheels, and a box full of equipment for 3 years and never had any problem at all. The southsport trailer tracks nicely at up to 120mph. Good trailering gary |

A word of caution-
A fellow autocrosser did this with his 993. The extra weight in the rear made the rear suspension toe out (as designed) and ruined a pair of new SO-3s. Cord was showing on the inboard shoulder after a few hundred miles down I-5. The car needs to be realigned to tow, which messes up your alignment for the track. Maybe it works better with a torsion bar car. |
