Hillclimbs have always fascinated me just because they are so different from other forms of racing - no laps, no guard rails, really more like a rally than anything else.

Can't offer any advice other than to say that Excellence has had some stories on hillclimb cars over the past two years. Mainly Pikes Peaks, I think. Might want to check them out to get some background. Good luck, and watch out for cliffs!

Hey! I'm from B.C. too!
I am on the island and have heard about the hill climb and would love to do it as well. I did a lot of track events when I lived out east but I am having a hard time doing them now that I am on the island. Is it an open event for anyone to do? I would love some more information on the event if you have it.

Hill Climbs

Two years ago we went to the Silver Sage Hill Climb in Pendelton Oregon to watch and learn. I am hoping that THIS summer I will be able to go to ONE hill climb, at least.

If I was going to take my car to a climb, I would treat it just like I was going to an auto-X. Clean everything out of the car, jack, spare all of the junk from everywhere, check over the car, all of that kind of stuff.

As for doing anything to the car special, NO. Unless new torsion/ aint- sway bars, shocks, and sticky tires are something you were going to do anyway. Before I spend BUCKS on special toys I want to make sure that I really LIKE this sort of outing and how many times a year can I go play.

From what I also learned it seems the guys run the stickest auto cross tire they can find. Like in auto-X, by the time the tires are hot, the run is over.

I think that there are 10 - 11 climbs here in the Pacific Northwest with one or two of those over on or buddy Canadian's side of the line.

the one in Kelowna has been going for about 45 years and I remember watching them from a young age to think I might compete is a cool thought, thanks for your input my car is a 70 T but it looks rs'ish and I should have a new 2.7 rs spec motor in it by then.

Invest as much time as you can in learning the course. Walk it a few times if it's possible.

Roll Cage.
Hella Fog Lamps.
Smaller diameter racing wheel ?
Mudflaps (and I don't mean growing a mullet - even though it might be the hair style of choice in your neck of the woods )

Assuming it is sealed and not dirt (I don't think you could pay me to try and make me race my own 911 on dirt...), you should start with reading the rules and making sure your car is ok to compete and in good mechanical condition.

And have fun

yes it's paved and most corners are negative camber for drainage , some real fast cars show for this race I believe 80 or so last year. It was at this event when I was 15 that I got the bug for Porsche. If I knew how to attatch the web site I would but if you look up Knox mountail hill climb through google you can get some info.
