I find it so cool that they use some of the same switches from a production 911 in a 962 Porsche.

I asked this same question the other day. I was told "double the wasting" volume? Also quicker action than a single large wastegate.

and the ring has been improved since then (asphalt), same for tires. that said, the new 919 record isn't that much of a "peak"

But finding 51 seconds on an already very impressive record, despite the asphalt or tires does nto make it less impressive. And I'm not sure how the 919 is not a peak if it is better than the 962 did. You do understand what "peak" means? ![]() Anything before, or after the peak, is less.. Which cannot be said for the 962 since the 919 is faster. So unless something beats the 919.. that is the peak of racing design/engineering How fast is the Porsche 919 Evo Hybrid? 0-60 MPH Time: 2.2 Secs. 0-120 MPH Time: 4.8 Secs. 1/4 Mile Time: 8.3 Secs. Top Speed: 230 MPH. Horsepower: 887 HP. 1/8 mile 5.6 s @ 146.0 mph 1/4 mile 8.3 s @ 185.8 mph Porsche 962 C Le Mans (1987) 0-60 MPH Time: 2.5 Secs. Power output: 680 HP (500 kW) Top speed: 350 km/h (217 mph) 1/8 mile 6.6 s @ 121.2 mph 1/4 mile 10.0 s @ 158.4 mph

Well, peak or no peak, the Porsche 962 was the most successful race car of all time (so far), by a lot of measures (like overall victories). It really was insanely dominating for nearly a decade!

No argument there Wayne, they are the most succesful, but that is not the peak of racing design/engineering.
The duration and why they lasted that long, was to do with rule changes and how Porsche and privateers worked along and around those rules. These days no car can last that long , because of the rule changes That does not mean they are less of a racing design feat

I think it's still one of the most beautiful racecars ever built. Maybe even more handsome than the Ferrari F1 cars of the late 80s early 90s.
