Question about switching to single alternator pulley
Hello, I have a '77 911s with the original 2.7 which used to have an air pump, but was removed long ago. After, yet again, struggling to get the outer shims to stay in place while tightening the nut on the fan belt pulley, I realized there is no need to continue going through this every time I change the fan belt. Why not just change the pulley to a single instead of this maddening double as I can't see ever installing an air pump.
So my question is; which single to use? Early 70s or late 80s? Will both work, or are there compatible issues with one? My alternator is a Marchal with external regulator and the fan has been updated/backdated to an 11 blade. Thank you Last edited by cknoll77; 08-25-2017 at 12:29 PM.. Reason: New title |

Assuming your fan is correct with the dozen or so small holes around the center section of the fan you will find the Carrera half pulley to work and match.
A 77 USA car would have a 5 blade fan. If your was back dated to a fan with 6 or 8 large holes in the center section you need to get the early pulley half. Keeping the spacers in place while assembling, smear some grease on the spacers to keep in place while assembling Bruce |

Great! Thank you for the reply Bruce! I can't believe after 22 years of struggling to keep those shims in place, I never thought of putting grease on them. I think I'll still change the pulley since I don't need the double. this helps a lot.
