Hi Rodney, I saw you posted on a thread in the classifieds section recently, hopefully that means things are getting better for you and that you can get your project back on the front burner. Looking forward as always to updates if so :-)

Sir Rodney, I hadn’t seen your note last Fall. I hope you and yours are well, but know these past two years have been rough. Come back as soon as you’re able and ready … you’re among friends here.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the kind words, I'm sorry that I had to disappear for over a year. Unfortunately, I have been in a super contentious divorce and I was worried that all I was writing would somehow be used against me. Well, and I was right. All of my posts were used as evidence in a way to try to value my projects and money spent. Can't believe it.

The good news, I was able to keep all of my tools and especially my 1972 911T Restoration project that you ALL have been helping me with.

The '72 along with all of my tools, and household items for that matter are in two storage units until I find a new home. Don't worry the 911 was wrapped up well and slid carefully into place. I have a house under contract right now, but still going through the inspection period, we will see what happens soon.

As soon as I get into the house, no matter what, I will epoxy the floors and then bring in the goods!

I feel that I owe some of you a little more details due to your genuine concern of my well being. In a nut shell, I'm in a better place. My relationship was terrible and the only good thing about it was my daughter. I've spent enough money in Lawyer fees to purchase a nice G Body, to fight to ensure that I will have equal custody.

A really good thing did happen... One of the best cars that I ever owned was an '82 911 SC. I sold it in 2005 on this forum for only $14,500. Here is the post...

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/271975-1982-911sc.html

Well, I've been chasing it ever since. The SC had two owners after I sold it. I helped the first owner sell it to the 2nd owner which I befriended for the last 5 years. He called me a few months ago and said that the car was really mine, that if anyone should have a shot at buying it, it should be me. He waited over a month and told others to pound sound until I got the cash together. 18 years! So, I have my beloved '82 SC back. It is beautiful, I will attach some pics below. I even was able to get my old license plate back. I also held on to my 917 style shift knob that was made by a member here for fun, before anyone was reproducing them. I could write a ton on the SC. It has been tough because I'm renting a small apartment without a garage so I have not been able to get the SC back in fighting shape on my own. So, I had to take it to the mechanic, Don Jackson here in Phoenix and they got everything base lined. It drives incredibly. Then I took it to get fully detailed and waxed. The car was super dirty, previous owner only put 3K on it in 5 years, but he never washed it. Total milage is 101K. All documented. So, in 18 years the two owners put a total of 20K miles. Not too bad.

I will start posting here again to keep you up to date on the '72. I'm sure we are at least another 6 months out before I can really start working on it. But, I can't wait. We are so close to getting some primer on it. I have to finish the cowl and then start lining up all of the panels.

Thank you again everyone for your concern.

Rodney

Rodney,

I’m in a similar boat and nearing a year into the divorce it seems like it has no end.

Your project and posts were and are one of the best things about Pelican for me and I can’t wait until you are back patching metal and building your dream, car and life.

For what it’s worth, I know I’m not the only one rooting for you and taking massive inspiration, even more so now that I know what you’ve been through.

Welcome back.

You daughter is worth all the fight you have to give. Glad to hear you are coming out of the other side in a better place. And yes, turning wrenches will also bring a smile to your face once you get to that point. And the motivation to continue driven by emotion and absence will have you accomplishing amazing things in a short time. And that will be fun to watch.

Thanks Ian. Still looking forward to talking to you when it comes time for suspension questions. I was able to find a pair of 3.5" Koni Struts and 72+ S Calipers for the '72. Will need help dialing in the torsion bars and picking out the right shocks. Thanks for the kind words about my daughter.

Sorry to hear you are going through what I'm going through. You don't know how tough it is until you have gone through it. I'm nearing the other side and every day is looking better. Thanks for rooting for me, together we will get this restoration done. Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, thank you for your kind words. I had to stop everything I was doing to solely focus on my daughter. All is getting better. I gave her a first ride ever in a Porsche today, the SC, and she did complain that it was loud but I think she was still having fun. As you said, I can't wait to start turning wrenches. I'm ready to use the undercoating you used, I'm so close!

Thanks for your kind words, it has been tough while I was away, excited to get back to it. I would go online and do some ogling of the pics as well to remember what I have accomplished.

Thank you everyone. I'm glad I'm in a better place it was really, really, rough for a while there thinking I was going to lose my daughter. I had a really great lawyer and therapists helping everyone to see reality and the fact that I am a good father. When my daughter gets a bit older I will put this through the test as I will teach her how to change a tire, change her oil, and check the fluids... at minimum the basics.

Glad to hear that it seems to be winding down. Hopefully the new house will pass and you will have a great space to house and work on your 911's. Love to see that you got the SC back! My dad handed his 1980 SC down to me and I treasure it.

Quick update guys!

I had a house under contract but just backed out last minute due to a bunch of repairs that were needed plus there were some negatives that I did not like..road noise, flat roof, bad electric panel, termites, small 2 car garage etc.

Good news was that same day I canceled I found an amazing house right where I wanted to live with a 6.5 car Garage!!! This is unheard of in the middle of the city, in Phoenix where I live. Typically, the houses in the neighborhoods where I am looking are ranch houses built in the mid 1950's with a 2 car carport and/or converted into a small 2 car garage. That is what the house that I backed out of had, a small 2 car garage, horrible because my daily driver was going to have to be outside.

I will get some pics of the inside as soon as I can, but here are some bad pics of the outside.

The right side garage is a two car standard garage, the left side is a 4.5 car tandem, with plenty of room at the end for all the tools and storage you will need. With attic storage and even a compressor!

I am going to trick the heck out of this place...

Can't wait to slide the '72 into here.

Fantastic find!

Kelly and I have been looking for years and I have yet to find a gem like that around here.

Just moved into a new house with a separate 1400 sqft garage here in Birmingham - half dedicated to woodworking the other half to the SC - so once the nearly endless honey do list is knocked down I'll start on the restoration. It was dad's daily driver for 20 years and needs some love. He got sideswiped a bit and dented the hood with a golf bag and needs a top end rebuild but otherwise is a good runner.

You've got to do a build thread when you get the resto underway. You know we're all big softies for generational 911 stories.
