I know that a lot of people will be posting pics, so I'll try not to duplicate. This event was just sick w/ unbelievable cars and great people, here are some Pelicanheads and cars:

That would be Tyson Scmidt, Chuck Miller and Randy Wells,

That's Chuck Moreland, me, and Tyson,

One of the highlights for me was this guy, a true mad scientist/genius, Dean Polopolus. He is the one who made the 4 cyl. 911 motor for 356s, he chopped 2 cyls. off of a 3.6, then made a casting and manufactured it. The first pic shows the wooden mock-up, the flat crank, and a finished case. He had one in a car, started it for us, sounded nasty! Claimed ~220hp from 2.2 liters, what a crazy guy!

And here he is breaking it down for Tyson:

Here is another artist, he makes aluminum body panels for 356s, soon 911s. All hand laid and hammered over molds, big$$ but absolute artwork:

And here is an aluminum 550 body w/ a full cage that somebody made:

Wow, pic's turned out great!

I'm kicking myself for not getting my picture with Herr Ruf!

I spotted him and pointed him out to Denis. Denis was quick on the draw and asked him for a photo. Alois gestured to the German Police car which he apparently enjoyed very much. (He later hopped in the car and played with the siren like a little boy. It was pretty funny!)

Anyway, denis told me to get my picture with him, but I didn't want to bother him. I may have missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Seems like a very nice man. Speaks very good English, and really seems to love these cars. Made my day meeting him.

Well, you were both in the same place at the same time, so we can fudge the pixels a little, and:

Wow! That's cool Jack. Thanks!

You know, I've met some really big-name celebrities since I've been in L.A.
Movie stars, etc., but in no way does it compare to meeting Alois Ruf. I mean, next to Butzi Porsche or Ferdinand Peich, this guy is THE man. How many people can really improve upon a Porsche. He's a true Legend.

!!!

That's genius! You've used science to allow Tyson to time travel back 8 hours and get the photo that he missed! Be prepared for hundreds of requests, though.

Damn! I was there day and I feel like I missed the show.

I was tied up in the swap meet till 12 or so. By the time I got to walk around most of the cars had left.

Some really cool stuff in the pictures. I love the 4 cylinder 911 motor.

Chuck, Glad to see that you made it home safely. You were one of my early Pelicanhead heroes w/ your DIY skills/ingenuity, best part of these shows is meeting and seeing people.

You notice that after some here gave Tyson grief about the 'hairy' arms, he is the only one at the show with a long sleeve shirt on...

After going though pics posted here, by Wayne and swbsam, this meet looks as though it would be sensory overload. FAR too many interesting/desireable cars and artisans that make their own engines. Wow.

And as an aside, excellent Photoshop work by Jack. Really well done.

Yeah Gary, thank goodness I couldn't make it to SoCal for that. It's really confusing to be
overly sensory stimulated by Porsche paraphernalia.

But seriously.....you dogs.

Interesting point, actually. It is a bit of sensory overload, I mean how many showroom condition 356s and early 911s can you really look at before it becomes a little boring? Even as a car nut, it can be too much. The great thing about this gathering for me was that I could really just skim over most of it, (appreciating it, though), and check out only what interested me. Dunkle's museum alone is worth the trip, (one mint condition 1940s cris craft police boat= looking at 100 mint Porsches that are basically all the same), and enough super-rare exotic cars that simply MUST be seen, IMO.

Still, after a couple of hours it's time to go home.
