Check out the chunking on this pad. It's a pagid orange pad. Looks like a rock got in there but there are no grooves on the rotor. Any chance this is heat related?

Chunking normally happens at the edges. Perhaps this one pad is defective. How did the others look?

Irrationally exuberant

I suspect the pad wasn't bedded in well enough before being used.

i have seen repco's go chunky if they get a drop of fluid in them. you really had to get them to 1000 degrees before they would bite.

Aside from the chunk reducing pad area, is this pad now a paper weight? All the pads have plenty of material left and I don't really want to spend $150 on pads now. I was hoping these would get me through this years DE events.

I would say that is a good example of shear failure. read: you must have some good rubber and braking technique to load them that much.
As chunks come off, the shear loading goes up even more. In addition to the chucks missing, there are cracks starting to propogate . . . Time to spend the coin.

I'd really like a set of pads to last more than 4 track days! One set for a season is not possible.........is it?
