Wink Will this get me thrown off the board?

I was perusing the Porsche classifieds, and for the heck of it, looked at some ads/pictures of 968's, particularly the cab's. They're actually beautiful cars, with a front end similar to that of a 993.

What's the deal with these cars? Are the sporty? Reliable? Desirable?

I think the 968 is supposed to be a great car. Not very many around, but great cars.

I test drove a 968 cab with tiptronic and to me it felt like a dog. FWIW.

The 968 CS seems to be fully accepted among Porsche fans.

A cab.....? Hmmm If it's also a tiptronic you'll probably be teased

Glad someone else is on board with 968s. They're gorgeous machines. 240 HP. A 968 owner said the 0-60 in 5.9 seconds wasn't conservative (at least he was honest), and that he couldn't get it to do better--that's not fast enough for me. 5.6 seconds without a lot of hoopla is what I have now, and I am only interested in getting that lower (which is why I have a ducktail now rather than the Carr tail [lost 10-20 lbs] and it is very light, and sport seats coming soon to get weight to 2400 lbs if possible).
However, as a second car for girls/dates and things like that? The 968 is really your only choice.
In my case, I have no sound deadening, bursch, no cat, yada yada yada..you have to scream to be heard in my car; which is why I keep the Paul Van Dyk cranked up as loud as it will go.

968 is a great car. Very torquey, six-speed (tiptronics need not apply), excellent handling. They rip up autocrosses if prepared and driven to the level the 911s are. All the modern conveniences, plus exclusivity.

Not, repeat NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT a substitute for a 911, though! As you said, maybe a nice stablemate for daily-driver date machine or when you want A/C.

968

Based on what the 968 BB has to say about problem areas, they seem to have more issues than 911s.

This is funny...I remember in 1992, a dealership salesman telling me that my car would make a "nice down payment" on a 968...I chuckled, and passed up that "opportunity"...we were looking at a black Cab when he said that. This morning's Portland OREGONIAN has the following ad: " 92 968 CABRIOLET, 39,600 miles, triple black, 5 speed, mint, garaged. $22,000 firm. 503-399-8695. I wonder...

A 968 would beat any < 89 911 to a bloody pulp in any dynamic handling/braking contest. It was one of the world's best handling cars when it was out. Far superior to our 911's.

This subject came up last year and the topic went on for maybe 4 pages. Do a search and you might find some more opinions.

Kristian, my car's not one of them, but i'll bet there's a number of fellas that would gladly take you up on that challenge.

Sure the 968 is a well-balanced and capable car. But best handling is a relative term. Most would say the 68 is more "forgiving." I'm not going to be foolish and say the 968 and its forefathers are slower on the track than the 911. I will say that the 911 can hold it's own if set up properly.

BTW, define far superior. Are you meaning refinement? Who needs that?
