Removing Clifford Car Alarm Parts
I removed some more uneeded old car alarm parts from my 1979 SC today, which had been cluttering up the frunk. The car has one of the Clifford brand units that were sometimes installed by dealers, and it was inoperative when I bought the car, but still in place. I'm sharing in case someone else wonders what these parts are and needs encouragement to get rid of them. When searching for alarm components (there are surprisingly many), some giveaways are: 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch heads and wiring that looks sloppier than Porsche's. The unlabeled metal box seems to be the movement trigger; it has an LED and it rattles/ticks when touched as though there is a spring in it. The other thing is a "Siebel Junior" air horn. The second pic shows it installed next to the spare tire. Good riddance!

I did! There was a nasty hole in the left dash panel where the keypad was, but I scored a replacement panel at the Hershey PA swap meet last year. Replacing the panel required removing the driver seat and lying on my back, but otherwise it was straightforward. Removing that ugly keypad felt great!

Removing Clifford Car Alarm Parts
Yours looks comparatively neatly installed. Mine was installed by a junior high school kid. I had to keep the keypad because the installer cut a very very badly done hole with a hacksaw behind it. There is nothing I can find that will cover up the hole correctly. The ignition surround had to be cut as well when the Clifford keypad went in.

Our 79 SC has a clifford which still works fine, the remote also does keyless entry. There is a keyboard on the dash but what's it for? i mean, if the remote enables / disables the alarm, why do you need the keypad? Is it an override in case the remote is dead or missing?

I'd love to have some detailed instructions on how to remove a working Clifford alarm. I am afraid to just start pulling out wires.

Main thing is to find the kill point. If I remember correctly it was the yellow wire that leads to the starter assy from the ignition key cluster. They cut the yellow wire and the alarm system is wired to each end. If you figure that out, you can bypass the alarm system and take the not needed stuff out at your convenience. This is from 15 year old memory so the comment may be at least worth what you paid for it. ![]()

In the corner of the frunk by the passenger side hinge.
