Down Grading from Monty Muffler?

My current set up is Monty 2-in-1-out muffler with SSI's. I love the sound of it but it's starting to wear on me. I'm thinking of switching to a Dansk standard 2-in-1-out muffler. I don't imagine there will be much difference in HP. Will I be disappointed if I do so? Thoughts?

I imagine most of your volume is coming from the SSIs and lack of cat to muffle sound. I have a Monty on an otherwise stock exhaust and the overall noise level is barely different than it was stock.

No idea what the Monty (or the Dansk standard) sounds like but the 2 in 1 out Dansk sport on my 79 ( with SSI) sounds great in my 64 year old opinion.

Well I would not say the Dansk would be a down grade, I run the two to one sport, my engine needs the back pressure that the Monty would not provide As far as the drive, pretty civil at lower rpms Really not bad at all on highway. But when you throw 4-7k rpms to it
It comes alive very nasty

I have never heard the Monty before (though heard many good things about it other than the steep price tag), however I recently pulled stock heater boxes, cat & muffler off of my 83' SC and installed SSI's & a Dansk 2 in 1 out muffler and think it sounds amazing. Just the perfect amount of rasp and burble without being overbearing.

I would try a quiet-riot baffle before ditching your Monty.

Make sure to get the Dansk sport. Otherwise you may notice a reduction in power.

The Dansk 2 in 1 out sport is somewhat louder than the factory stock 2 in 1 out. Even so, with your windows up you will not hear the exhaust.

+ 4 on the Dansk Sport. Absolutely love it. Keep your foot out of it and you can pass by a cop like an angel, but nail the loud pedal it make a deep bass glorious noise. The best part is no droning at freeway speeds. Easy to hold a conversation without raising your voice. Mild when you have to be and raucous in anger.

Monty vs Dansk

Interesting you mention the Monty is starting to wear on you.

I have SSI's and a Dansk 2-1 and have been thinking the same. Sounds great, but it's just a tad louder than what I want — sometimes

I was thinking of looking into the Monty - they seem to have very positive reviews on this forum.

Guss I should be happy with what I have.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I went back and forth between the two after listening to numerous YouTube videos and decided on the Monty based solely on appearance. I think the big brushed metal canister under the bumper looks fantastic.

Monty

I have driven a few SC's with a Monty 2/1 and I thought they were fairly tame - that's why I went with a 2/1 M&K (with SSI's).

I tried a M&K 2/2 (too loud/drone) and a factory '74 2/1 (too quiet, but no drone).

I wouldn't think a Dansk would be much quieter with SSI's or similar heat exchangers, try to listen to one "in person" and drive it if at all possible before shelling out the coin. If the Dansk is still too loud, try a factory (or factory type) '74 2/1.
