Finicky 915
Sometimes have trouble shifting from 2 into 3. Other times it shifts just fine. Today, we drained out some gear oil and put in a quart of Lucas. Not a lot of difference. No grinding, just tough engaging into 3rd. Thoughts? She is mated to a 3.2 but I doubt that makes a difference. The car, and trans, is from a 1974.

syncros & dog teeth at the worst. do you know the miles on the gearbox?
if you've not adjusted the clutch yet try that, maybe a new cable. they do stretch leaving a half gone clutch disk seem more tired due to lack of adjustment. . there are a number of shifter linkage bushing that can be tired/worn, or less than lubed/adjusted that will make things seem worse than they actually are if neglected or are out of whack. research some of that and tell us what you find out!. or it's syncros & such

+1 Likey Synchros and Dogteeth.
Try double clutching, if this cures it then for sure it is the synchro bands/slider
