MFI hard lines- interference with throttle
Hello,
After 20+ years of carbs, and about 10 years of having MFI parts in a box, I am finally reverting my car back to MFI. I test fit the hard fuel lines and throttle rods/cables and noticed that the rod was rubbing slightly on the #3 fuel line. I managed to nudge the line in a bit to give myself 1/4" of clearance, but would like to see how the lines should align. I searched all over, but couldn't find a good shot from the front of the engine looking back. Can some one post some from the same angle? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1505501334.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1505501334.JPG Note: Those pictures were before I bent the line a bit to give me more clearance. Thanks, Neil |
Neil,
I can try to get a photo later today/tomorrow. My .02 - the offending line looks like it is bowed. You should take it off and 'bow' it the other direction. Carefully. Looks like engine is out so now's the time. |
Thanks Matthew, it looks bowed to me too.
I am trying to determine how much I need to bow it in the other direction. I'll look forward to seeing your pictures. |
Sorry, the photos were a bust. Just couldn't get the phone in there. My line that goes to cylinder 3 looks like it runs at a different angle or plane that the longer 2. It's under the other 2 lines and nowhere near the throttle linkage. Your lines all look parallel, different from mine.

Matthew is right; that line is tweaked, untweak it.
Helps if you loosen and re tighten, sometimes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Here's a pic from my recent teardown- it isn't quite the angle you're looking for, but does show that the 3 lines run parallel and in-line (lower right part of pic). Suggests that the others are correct, one of your lines may be a bit bent outta shape.

Here are a few pics of my lines, removed from the engine and cleaned up a bit. Hopefully you can see where they should/shouldn't be bending.

Thanks for the pictures.
Interesting that the parts manual only shows that bracket/clamp on the right side of the pump and not the left. Guess I need to order two of them. |
