88-89 Door Card Removal Process?

I need to replace speakers and make some access for a paintless dent repair. I did a search for process steps to remove door cards, but couldn't see an obvious post. Probably the process is the same for many years of e.g. SC and Carrera. I found a thread for removing the window swiches, that helps. Any links or ? to get to the right thread on this? Thanks.

Do you have the Bentley manual? The instructions in there are actually pretty good.

if you do end up removing door switches, be sure to take good photos of how the wires connect before removing -- appears that color coding/etc. is not completely consistent -- best to have a picture of how yours were connected before removal.

Paint less dent repair can be done in some cases from the drain holes located at the bottom of the door.

Speakers can be replaced by removing only the door pocket.

Good luck,

Gerry

Window switches.

I posted pics of the wire colors for our M/Y 86.

Should be the same for your M/Y.

Do a search-Window switches.

My speakers came out using a little stubby right angle philips screwdriver that I got on amazon without removing anything....not even the handle. I have used this cheap little gadget a couple of times since for quick access to weird spots. Hope this is helpful.

Someone bumped or closed the door hard enough that the 3 mounts broke (3 screws left behind) and the speaker came out hanging by the wires. After inspecting the speaker it looks like someone glued (there was a bunch of glue-gun glue) a different speaker to the "frame". The quick connects for the wires are not there, just soldered wires going somewhere in the door. I went to EASY in Oakland and got a speaker and harness. I'm planning to pull the door card to investigate what is needed to get back to stock. Thanks people for all the tips.

keep in mind that "stock" on these door speakers leaves a lot to be desired. Specifically, the speakers are simply affixed to the door card (which is heavy cardboard). There are a number of threads that discuss how folks have made more robust speaker mounts by using stronger material (cutting boards, etc.) behind the door card that screw directly into the door.

Yes, I've seem some threads on that subject. Not sure when I'll get to that sort of upgrade but I'm thinking of it. Thanks.

The instructions in Bentley are not bad.

I got the passenger door card off and noticed that there are Boston cross overs and Boston speakers (assume same on both sides).

Tip #1 - the cover for the small speaker screws on, the cover for the large speaker snaps on.
Tip #2 - if you try to take the small speaker out of the carrier you will most likely break the carrier across one or more of the screw holes. I'm not sure how to do this, I cracked mine a bit and stopped.

There are two cap screws at the bottom of the handle but the handle doesn't come off the door card until the door card is out. There is a Phillips screw coming back the other way. Careful getting the inside flap that goes over the back pocket off. There's a bit of a trick to get it off the card. E.g. take the complete handle off and then 90 degree x 2 wiggle the back off.

When I fixed my window being inoperative issue, I used my Bentley Bible. Zero issues following the instructions in it.
