Pic Request - Footwell

I'm looking for some photos of stripped tubs in the area of the passenger footwell, please. My '76 911 had the "evaporator hole butchery" applied to it back in the day, in a similar fashion to this, albeit with a tin opener (I heard dealers used to cut these holes with an air-chisel!!!):

I need to patch this area up, but it's not just a simple flat piece of metal - there appears to be some curvature to it. Would be great to see pics of a virgin, naked tub. Thanks!

I used a flat piece of metal because the metal there was real wavy. It was essentially flat except for the hole for the blower resistor pack and the detail spot welded above my plate. Sorry I don't have a completely naked shot. I used it as a doubler for the battery box inside the smuggler's box area:

Thanks for the pic. My cutout is much more expansive than your patch piece - it goes north and east of that.

I had the same issue with my 73 Targa. I cleaned up the metal edge around the hole and took it to a body shop. They made up an exact patch piece and butt welded it in. They cleaned up the weld, primed seam sealed and painted black for $100. I then replaced the the sound deadner. Looks like it never was butchered. Rob

Hi Ferrino,

I found the same butchery in my car. Maybe these pic's will help you.
good luck!

Kind regards,

Thanks all. D@vid - yours is much like the cutout in mine - much appreciated!

If you can't find anyone to weld it for $100, another option would be to use Kydex to cover it up, attached by rivets or rivnuts (if you want it to be removable). Kydex is the brand name of a particular plastic polymer that is moldable with a heatgun, but otherwise rigid. I think ABS/HDPE/PVC sheets might also behave in a similar manner at 1/16".

what would be the purpose of those cut outs?

On my '84 (and probably any with an AC compressor in the smuggler's box) there are numerous HVAC wires coming through there.
