Question NOW what??? 915 leaking oil

Dear Friends,

I have this 1976 911 with a 915 tranny, and the car was working fine, then I disassemble the whole car to restore it (took 1 year) and now the transmission is leaking oil

I changed the old oil for a new SAE 90 mineral regular oil ( I canīt get Swepco where I live )

And now, the once non leaking transmission, is leaking a lot.

First I thought that I put to much oil when I refilled it and this excess was coming out from to top breather but now I think that the leaking came from the (Transmission Differential Output Shaft Seal 999 113 183 40) because the whole transmission seems washed with oil and there is a oil spray pattern on the superior part of the chassis ( just like centrifugal force spray the oil )

Now I have a few questions:

1-) does it seem plausible? to leak oil from the seal and get sprayed
2-) did I put a too thin oil?
3-) Can I change the (Transmission Differential Output Shaft Seal 999 113 183 40) with the engine and the tranny in place?
4-) How do I remove #14 Joint flange? Just unbolt and tap it out?
5-) I notice that the bolt #16 is a elastic bolt. What does that mean? That mean that I must install a new one since once this bolt is tightened it loose itsshape?
6-) Why in this PET file (74 77 katalog, page 147 I donīt see the Shaft seal ? Just the flange and the bolt
7-)What is the torque on this elastic bolt #16
8-) Should I replace the big "o" ring (999 701 392 40) that seal the transmission cover as well?

Thanks for the help

Ricardo

What is 90w mineral oil. You should be using a 90w Hypoid oil. It looks like your axle seal is leaking not that big of a deal to change.

Had the same problem with my 73. Put new seals in and it still leaked. Took 1/2 pint of oil out. Problem solved. Two years. No leaks

yea that looks like an output flange seal leak.
don't feel bad.
I had all that out on my 930 fixing leaks and the same thing happened.
the bad thing with mine is there were 2 different sizes of seals and I got the wrong one.

me? I would do it with it still in the car.
put a pan under the tranny, pull the flanges and replace the seals.
if oil leaks out its no big deal. degrease the under side when done.

put 2 bolts in the flange and a bar to hold it. the bolt is not on that tight.
the flange comes out easily.
not sure about torque.
I would not mess with the cover seal unless it is leaking.
make sure you get the right seals. mine had 2 sizes for the inside. it really leaks if you get the bigger one.
tie the CV joints up hi out of the way.

If I remember correctly, the torque on those flange center bolts is 32 ft-lbs, not a whole lot.

Dear Friends

I donīt know why, when I put this post up it appeared twice, just like I had posted 2 time the smae post ( whiceh Iīm sure that i did not) anyway...

On My other post clarkd told me to check the orientantion of the vent, m vent orientation was about 20 degrees out of alignment and all that oils spelt out

Neve in a million years I'll think in something about it !

I aligned the vent and the oil is gone!

Thank you all

Thank you so much and all Pelicans members that chime in and all Pe
