footwell blowers
My footwell blower seized again and in trying to free it up i broke the fan. The other one is on its last legs as well....Does anyone know of a better/cheaper aftermarket replacement...I am tired of replacing the fans and motors.....

Fans.

I have been "Hounding" our host to stock just the fan motors which should not cost more than $125. There are several threads on this forum which show steps for fan replacement using the evaporator(?), or front condenser(?) motor with slight modifications. Also, please check our used parts forum. Good luck, Gerry

I removed mine years ago. Don’t need them here in north Louisiana!

911s got by with many years without any fans boosting the output through the heat exchangers, and only added electric fans when the heat exchanger design was changed in 1975. I assume these were added to aid in defrosting the windshield, but I never noted any lack of heat in my old Porsches. Removing the squirrel cage blowers in the foot wells may not have that much difference in airflow and you can always shift down to a lower gear to increase the output of the engine driven fan.
Has anyone not had adequate heat or defrosting if they removed these fans?

Yeah, you're fine without them if you have an engine blower or even just the engine fan attached. They can be replaced with simple tubing.
If not...I vaguely recall someone found out what the motor was (or a drop-in replacement) that was much, much cheaper. Alas, I didn't save the thread. |
