Question about removing the bumper shocks on a 912 SC
Hello all,
I’m trying to remove the bumper shocks on an SC. I found a link about details on how to do it but, can not find the link anymore if my life depended on it. I’m turning Counter clock wise with mounting bolts on the outside, while holding the bolt on the other end of the shock in place with a wrench but, the thing will not budge. Is there a trick to getting these things out? Thanks in advance! |

Front or rear?
The bolts are big—M10 or M12 if I recall correctly...Got an impact driver, PB Blaster, and/or a breaker bar? On my '84, they were threaded normally (lefty loosey) up front. |

Ive seen that first link, thank you. It looks like everyone is discussing weight difference rather than a method on getting the shock out. Sorry if I didn’t see the section where it tells how to remove

thank everyone. Ive been trying to turn the bolt (like the link Spyder posted says to do), it just spins freely. The bolt and nut turn but, nothing else moves.
I feel like such a bone head right now because this seems super easy for everyone else but, its not working for me. thanks again, hope someone else has run into this same problem and has a solution for me.

Hmmm, if the nut and bolt are turning together, but the bumper shock is not...it really sounds like your shock has been damaged. Perhaps the two halves are broken internally such that the front of the shock can spin independently of the rear? When I worked on my car, I had the one-piece euro versions.
Are you able to see or feel the entirety of the shocks as you're doing this? Something that's spinning shouldn't be spinning. |
