Electrical Connector Dissassembly

On my 1983 SC one of the wires for the heater blower in the engine compartment broke off right at the back of the car side connector. I have unplugged the connection and I think that if I were able to remove the metal conductors from the inside of the plastic plug I might be able to reattach the wire. I have not been able to figure out how to remove these conductors, and do not want to damage the plug trying. Can someone please provide assistance?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

those are a pain to remove. Each style of connector has a special pin removal tool that works with them. Sometimes you can get to the prong that needs to be pressed up to pull the pin out with something as simple as a paperclip or a o-ring pic tool. I remember that connector you have pictured being difficult for me however.

Is the wire burnt on the end?

Using a small flat screw driver, you'll need to push in the tab on the connector inside the plastic housing. Once the wire is repaired, push the tab back out before inserting back into the housing.

Photo of pin you are trying to remove.
Zoom in and you can see the raised latching tab in the middle. You need to flatten it to remove the terminal.

This!

Using this method I was able to remove the contacts from the housing, and then reattach the wire.

Thanks for the visual!

Where are these parts Available? I could not find them with the host. Although I was able to reuse my contact that the wire broke off of, new parts would be best.

Yes the insulation on the last 1/8th of an inch of the wire did look like it got a little hot. I imagine form the overheating of the wire when only a strand or two was carrying the load before it totally broke off. I cut off a 1/4 inch of the wire before reattaching to work with fresh conductor and insulation.

I used Eagleday for connectors as well.

Those wires are brittle due to age, but mostly due to heat. That fan draws a lot of current so keep an eye on it. I do not believe it is fused.
