Power/fuel/RPM graph for 3.2

I've seen the graphs for a 2.7 and 3.0SC, clearly indicating best economy at 3000rpm, but does it also apply to the 3.2 Carrera?

Yes, at least some sort of economy. After seeing the graphs, and staying around 3000rpm in town, my 2.7 became much more economical. Now I'm wondering what the Carrera's graph looks like.

putting around town at 3K=carbon build up. Drive it like it's suppose to be driven and spend a couple more $ on gas.

You might notice that the upshift indicator on a 3.2 has you shifting much earlier than 3000 rpm.

Cheers,

Joe

Nope, Paul Frere, Porsche 911 Story

Awesome book, lots of technical info, often much deeper than BA's book.

The major factor contributing to the 3.2-liter's improved efficiency...touching a record low of 187 g/hp/hour around 2600 rpm...

Since the late 1970s, however, the engine development team had a new golden rule: any increase in power should only be obtained with a corresponding decrease of the fuel consumption.
from Paul Frere's book "Porsche 911 Story" page 81.

This might clear up any misconceptions about Porsche and fuel consumption.

'85 Carerra that wishes to be as fast as the 2.7...

I must have missed somthing here, but what could be the problem with your 3.2 to make it lag behind your 2.7?

I have owned a 2.7, 3.0 and now an 86 3.2 and can tell you there must be something wrong with your 3.2 because mine will run circles around my previous 911's.

Cheers,

The 3.2 is in perfect condition, and very fast, it's just that the 2.7 is a 912 body...

Below 60mph nothing touches the 2.7 because of its lightweight body and 912 gearbox, only above 60mph does the 3.2 get faster than the 2.7, and thereafter increasingly so.

I've sold the 2.7 recently, so I guess my profile is out of date. I will update it now.

Thanks for the graphs, it answers my question.
