How about that chat room? Suppose I had a counter that showed how many people were in the chat room at one time?

Wayne, this board has become a way of life for many of us, as indicated by most of the previous posts.
I am building a bunker with 1 foot thick walls for my computer so your system will have someone to talk to. ha! As soon as I obtain that M491, I'll be a better customer of yours! Thanks for all your hard work! Mike |
Wayne,
I'm very impressed with the BBS, Pelican Parts and your book(s), the depressing part is seeing your photo in a thread and realizing how young you are, with all these accomplishments; you are a high achiever and possibly a work-a-holic? I figured you for some 50ish grey haired guy with a ton of experience. Whatever you're doing, you're doing something right....... so keep it up, we're all obviously very impressed. I'm new to the BBS, I'm impressed with the search engine, works great and has taken me to countless hours of reading. I really like the printer friendly version of a webpage/thread; makes it very nice for printing and taking the reading to a more comfortable spot - like bed. I'm sure I've made some new friends and being part of this BBS has heightend the enjoyment of being a Porshe owner, immensely! It would be nice to have more of a range of pages to jump to; ie: at the bottom of the thread it shows Pages 1,2,3...Last. If I'm looking for page 30 I have to hit page 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on instead of 10, 20 then 30 like most websites (ten is standard per jump?), is that possible? Maybe a headline thread for new comers, how, why, do's and don'ts of using the system? It took me a while to get the gist and I'm sure some of the veterans would appreciate have new comers more informed, as well as the new comers being more comfortable using the BBS? Things like using the search engine first, posting pics, language, sex and politics, you know all the good stuff? You could even make it a thread that members could add tips to and new comers could read first. I've read a ton of threads from people wanting to know how to post a pic, including mine in the Canadian section - Hah ha. You've done a great job with your company/ BBS and I sure appreciate it! Thanks! Rob |
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to ask?
I'm comfortable with those 1 foot thick walls, but what's the fire rating on your fire door? Is it just a fire door (max. 2 hr. rating) or is it an explosion proof door? Please look into this, as the door is the weakest part of the system. Jodi Fosters movie the "Panic Room" has an example of a good door system. |
Ha, the door is part of the building, and weighs about 300 lbs... If the fire gets through the door, then I have more important things to worry about. Besides, I have everything remotely backed up at my home, so we'd have to have an earthquake or fire/explosion knock out both of those...

Oops, I thought the walls/door was just a joke - sorry for my ignorance?

Well, it's not like the BBS is mission critical, is it? |
I'll take your word for it on the RAID 1. And I know for a fact that the mirrored drives will indeed rollover on failure. Trust me - I know...
The only problem is booting off of a backup mirror volume on Windows - you need to set the boot sector... -Wayne |
