If it is a true mint condition, unrestored, garage-queen, the answer is a fortune. There is a restored example at Heritage Motors in West hollywood, asking price $79,000. It is nice but definitely not Pebble Beach quality. If your example is what it seems, true value would be whatever someone like Seinfeld will pay for it. Like they say about real estate,"they're not making any more of them".

What are they asking for it? Also, why is this model so special? I mean I understand that when there are very few models available a car is generally worth more, but it does require demand. So why is this car in such high demand?

This is the car that made Porsche famous in America. Only 500 were planned, and for the specific purpose of kicking booty on the American race circuit. It was well suited for that purpose, and consequently, demand pushed production up to around 1500. In a recent review involving the 10 most famous production Porsches and several highly experienced pro drivers, this car was overwhelmingly voted the best Porsche ever produced. It's a legend. And a kick in the pants.

In terms of pure road-going Porsches the '73 2.7 Carrera RS is widely acknowledged as being the best model Porsche has ever produced. Many motoring 'legends' (racers/journalists/collectors) regard it as one of the best road cars (irrespective of make & era) ever made.
There has been a lot of controversy over the years as to exactly how many RS's were produced but the generally accepted figure seems to be 1580 - made up of the RS Sport M471 commonly referred to as the 'Lightweight'), the RS Touring (M472) & the 2.8RSR (M491).
I can only comment on the situation in the UK & Europe where prices can vary tremendously (as with any early 911 model) depending on condition/verifiable history/ originality/RHD vs LHD/etc but the baseline for a good, useable LHD Touring is probably around £30k ($45,000) going up to "the sky's the limit" for an excellent, original RHD 'Lightweight' with documented history.
2.8RSR's are in a different league altogether!

Incidentally there are lots of RS replicas in the UK (again of wildly differing levels of accuracy & condition)& you can currently pick up an excellent version (commonly based on a 2.4T) with correct engine/body/suspension/brakes/etc for around £15,000 ($22,500) - ie about half the price of an original in inferior condition.
The subject of 'replicas' often produces heated debates - of course it would be nice to own an original but I would be very happy to own a well-built RS replica.

Thanks

The ask price for the car (not a replica) is $149,000CDN (±$100,000US). So if everyting is original this guy is not a dreamer. I only wish that a true amateur get it not a speculator (I guess I am a dreamer).

The vendor indicate that only 16 cars of this model are registered as original condition on the globe ?.

Pickup a copy of the current issue of EVO (UK magazine). They compare several of the greatest 911's of all time, including the 959 and the GT2. The '73 RS comes out on top. That's why it's worth the price.

These two are typical of those available in the UK.

6's & 7's were the standard equipment wheels on the '73 RS. Quickly changed to 7&8 by most owners...it's the paint theme of the wheels that isn't original RS on the car in the pic.

As I stated in my earlier post, the '73 Carrera RS came in 3 main versions - the M471 Sport (mainly now referred to as the 'Lightweight'), the M472 'Touring' & the competition-orientated M491 2.8RSR.
In general, the Touring model was fitted with steel front & rear bumpers, rocker trim, the more 'luxurious' (& heavier) interior of the contemporary 2.4 S,etc whereas the 'Lightweight' had fibreglass F&R bumpers, lightweight bucket seats, thin perlon carpet, basic lightweight door trims, no passenger sunvisor, clock, rear seats, underseal, etc.

When most people think of the '73 Carrera RS this is the specification they tend to think of although many more RS left the factory originally in Touring trim.

Incidentally, standard wheels were 6x15" front, 7x15" rear but many (most?) owners chose the optional 7" front/8" rear Fuchs.

About the rims:
The factory issued a homologation demand, approved by the FIA, to make the 7 front and 8 rear rims an option for the RS. The paper is issued April, '73. This was made so that the RSR could get wider rims while staying within the rules.
That means that on RSs built after April '73, the 7 and 8 Fuchs could well be factory fitted items.
FWIW, every RS I've seen that is factory original (maybe 10) had 6 and 7 rims.
