Relay Post Cleaning

Noticed my horn was not working or working intermittently. Traced the problem to corrosion on the relay posts. This tells me that I need to clean all the relay posts and sockets. I can pull each relay and use a piece of emery cloth to clean the posts up. I was wondering what people have used to get down into each posts socket? I have DeoxIT to clean and treat the connections but I would still like to get down into the socket. easy over hard would be appreciated...

I have used a trimmed Q-Tip and Deoxit corrosion cleaner. Works well, unless the the metal is actually pitted.

If you have a guns & ammo store nearby (Bass Pro, Cabelas, etc), they make several types of cleaning tools that will fit into small diameter sockets.

I also run a razor blade between the tabs on the relay itself, spread them out just a touch so they fit tighter into the socket. I had a fuel pump relay fall out at an autocross once....

A small piece of 220 sand paper tightly rolled will work as well.

Don't go too abrasive, they are silver plated copper.

A bit of dielectric grease is good Insurance once it’s cleaned.
