New to Old Porsche restore/fix

Hello everyone....Harry and my first non-996 that I have purchased. 1980 911 SC that is need of some interesting repairs. I have no history on the vehicle, it has only 33k miles. Missing parts, wrong parts, just wrong in general, but love the slant nose.

and does anyone know where to find oem/aftermarket front quarter window frames?

Before you start tearing it apart, look for a vin and call Porsche. Could be a factory slant, could be a dealer conversion, could be sonderwunschen. Porsche did some crazy, one-off things, and it could be a fairly valuable car.

I have a call into a local Porsche Dealer, but it seems he was having issues with my vin# I will try again tomorrow. Car has some things as I am finding different from what I have seen.

Not sure on the frames. Try Sierra Madre?

Highly unlikely. The slant did first appear in 1980, but looked far different than this.

Different airdam with fixed lights, no fender slats in front. Very early ones had no rear slats either.

It could be a dealer conversion, but that is also unlikely. There are five slats in the rear fender, there should be three. Also the rocker panels are non-factory.

It is possible the front end could be factory parts.

Also it probably started as a Targa, the cabriolet did not come out until 1983.
_

Also, either the antenna has been moved or it is not a 1980. Antenna was moved from left to right in 77. In other words, it is on the wrong side for a 1980.

It has some nice Gotti or Etoile wheels it looks like. It may be very difficult to find rubber for them.

Cool find!

Correct me if I'm wrong.....been a long time since I walked the Porsche Corral at the Rolex 24 with my buddy the "all things correct and incorrect Porsche".....but I seem to remember that if you were to run your fingers under the bottom side of the "slats" in the rear fenders, you might feel a very slight ridge towards the outside edge of the slat...that's because they are plastic and not genuine as the real deal has the slats made of wood that are completely smooth.

A slant was only a prototype in '80 and wasn't in "production" until '82 and I do believe all '82's were hammerhead versions like pictured above with the rectangular lamps in the bumper

I know the body is metal and that is about it. The rear fins are not plastic, but not sure what they are, I have the original rockers and a different front bumper but will have to look at them as they are with a bunch of other parts we have for different cars. I have x3 915 trannies that came with the car and a few boxes of parts to still go through. The interior is in excellent shape as is the cab top. The car has not been started since 2001 and thank god there was NO fuel in the gas tank. We are currently soaking the cylinders in mystery oil and this weekend I will pull the fuel line off the filter and try to see if the pump still works. I have always wanted a slantnose and whether or not who did it, does not bother me... value is in the driving and enjoyment of the car not what others think. I am so happy there are so many knowledgeable people on this site, I know I will need help!!
Thanks

Cool find. Slants aren't my thing, but congrats. Those wheels look pretty deep. That is definitely cool too.

You have a unique beast on your hands, and it should be a blast to drive. I would focus most on ensuring the engine is sound and the body changes were safely fabricated.

It is so far from stock you'll need no excuses to alter it to your whims.

Also we need more pictures.

European Auto Salvage Yard (EASY) in Emeryville, CA. Also Parts Heaven in Hayward, CA. Both have more Porsche parts than they know what to do with. Great people and very involved in our community. Good luck.

Its an 80SC. Likely started out life as a targa and then someone found some coke and some money and went haywire giving it a good '80s look. At the same time, it looks like fun! As for front qtr vent windows, ask around. I imagine Cab/Targa doors are different than coupes due to that vent and the subsequent lack of frame around the window.

IIRC< the typical VIN # was not standardized until 1981? so yes, your dealer could have an issue with a 1980 VIN number.

Out with the old gas tank, old FP and a few lines.....OMG was that a nightmare. Gas that stunk like varnish....so stinky!!!

I want to thank everyone that had already went through the nightmares of FP wiring and voltage....as I hooked mine up I want to try to check for voltage to make sure it was right....key on= no voltage.... search on forums and found many options for testing and answers.

Hopefully tonight I can finally hear her run after a 16 year sleep

As I understand, the factory slant headlights had a mechanism whereby they both were powered by the same electric motor so they raised and lowered at the exact same time and you wouldn't have one fail open or closed giving the "wink".

Headlights wink

Not sure but will check tomorrow. I know the 944 has a rod connecting both headlights so they work together

I can't speak for 1980, but my '79 came with manual antenna which is located on driver's side. An automatic antenna would have been placed on passenger side, as more room in the fender.
