Torsion bars
Hi All,
I am currently restoring a 1971 911T. I bought it in boxes and I'm aiming at a "stock" spec. I have the original 19 and 23 mm torsion bars. I'm not aware of condition or use. 1) Should I replace them? 2) If yes, should I upgrade? To which spec? I have already bought new "stock" Bilstein front and rear absorbers. Thanks for any input, Jörgen Forssling Göteborg SWEDEN |

Hello Jorgen - perhaps post a picture of the torsion bars and our members can recommend as to whether they need to be replaced or not. If they do need to be replaced, take a look at the link below and please let us know if you have any questions!

If you're going for a stock spec, then a great way to go is leave the front 18.8 and swap out the rears for a set of 24mm from a later 911. Keeps factory ride quality but reduces squat and roll, and actually balance out the handling.

It depends on what you intend to do with the car.
If you want a stock car and want it to be original in appearance and it will be a weekend cruiser, leave them stock. If your torsion bars still have the original paint and if they are rust free, they will be fine to reuse. If you are planning on generally upgrading the car's performance or making a hot rod then, yes you want to upgrade the torsion bars. Lots of opinions about sizes here.
