removed distributor cap, and now it wont start

i backdated my heat last night so i had to remove a few things.

upon reassembly the car will not start. turns over fine but i assume no spark.

its getting fuel because i can smell it loading up.

pulled the cap back off and reconnected and check the wires, but still nothing.

tia

Did the wire going to side of the distributor that connects to the points get knocked loose?

I triple checked everything. Took the cap back off and rechecked the wires. I did pull one out of the end but placed it back in.

Double checked that too. One lead is a ground. Other goes back into the harness with the distributor wire

Well, maybe your points were jostled and aren't opening enough.
Rotate engine by hand and make sure they open.

Coil center HT lead fully seated in coil? (You mentioned low voltage leads are ok)

Below rotor on left side in your photo. The shiney bits in photo.
Do some research on setting your points/dwell.

Distributor rotor........

Could you post a close up shot of the distributor rotor? It looks like it is pitted and worn out. Test the ignition using an inductive timing light for ignition signal during cranking. Check the cap too.

Yes, replace the points as you noted, you are supposed to set the dwell angle when doing so. I think you need a dwell meter. Are you sure you broke the points? It would seem difficult to do so as they are sort of tucked in there. The big thing is, it's mechanical so it can wear out. I would replace the points anyway.

The rotor has a notch in it as well. You can see your dizzy shaft wear point and the rotor is not all the way seated. Look inside your rotor you can see a notch to match (moot if you broke the points) While you're in there:

Buy a dust cover - it goes between the rotor and the top of the distributor housing.

Loosen the bracket that holds the coil and slide it up and in a bit so the coil wire to the cap has less of a bend (purely aesthetic)
