I need a little help with a 1976 911 that I am looking to purchase. It is listed as 1976 911S euro with a 3.0 in it. Would this come with the normal 3.0 injection etc that came on the later 3.0's? Would this 76 model be inherantly lighter then the later years? I am attaching a photo and I would like to hear some opinions on this as an occasional nice weather daily driver and anything I should look out for. Thanks for any help you could give.
No pic right I need a jpg format Ebay item # 2403841445 |

I strongly suggest you get the engine number from the seller. I don't think the 3.0L came with a green fan shroud and 5 blade fan.

I am sure this car was the subject of a thread here a few days ago.
It is advertised as a European import 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0. The regisration plate is from Germany. The VIN is for a '77 911 2.7, the '76 Carrera 3.0 should be 9116600001-1093 Oddities are seats from a later car, Turbo 3.3 spoiler, US style bumper overiders, engine cooling shroud should be red I would get every detail confirmed, it looks like it could be a bitza What is the engine number? |

The 5 blade fan is correct for a 3.0 Carrera

I did talk to the guy on the phone. Everyone seems to be asking him the same questions. He does not know where the engine ID is either. I am in San Fransico next week-end and this guy is in Scotsdale. I may try to swing through there on my way back to Indy. The guy has auctioned this several times with ending prices from $6K to $9K. He wants $11. If it has a solid 3.0 even if not original, it might be worth between 9-11. ant other thoughts would be appreciated.

I would not pay 11K for a mid-year car. Even with an SC motor in it. I would save a couple more thou and look for an SC. You have a month or two before people start buying summer cars, so keep looking. An all original SC is worth more than a 77 with a 3.0 and SC flares. Any work the PO did will/may have to be corrected by you or your mechanic. Plus the shady reports on this car would make me very wary.
It looks nice on E-bay, but if you notice some of the pictures, the guy slapped a bunch of ArmourAll on everything. CHECK THE CAR OUT VERY WELL BEFORE YOU COMMIT. GET A PPI AND HAVE SOMEONE WHO DRIVES ONE DAILY LOOK IT OVER WITH YOU. Good luck. If you want to spend 11K come buy my house. I'll sell you mine ![]() |

Thanks Souk. I saw your snow pics this AM and we are just now getting hit with freezing rain here in Indy. I went to your web sight and took a look at your project. Looks nice! Atomsbomb has offered to look at the car for me and I would like to know if it is even a 3.0 or not. I have a long drive from San Fran to Indy next week-end and I would love to break up the drice with a few choice p cars along the way. I'm starting with a 1980 Porsche 911SC - Weissach located in San Fran. I also have a local car that Bob Farmer prepared that i am comparing to some of these others for sale. This shopping part is pretty fun, but i am ready for the buying part. Thanks again.

Something smells here
A really nice 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 in Europe has got to be worth $10k - 15K in Europe, so how has it it got to Az and is selling for $11k max? The 5 blade fan was standard for all 76+ cars I think, but the engine number is the identifier. Now if this guy has imported the car then he MUST know the engine no. to get a registration in the US. Start asking questions Last edited by nick-moss; 02-15-2003 at 01:51 PM.. |

The engine number is located verticaly here

The guy did not import the car. Someone in the armed services brought it back with them. Thanks for the photo to ID with. I'll send it to the guy. If not Atomsbomb volanteered to go look at it. I still need some instruction on how to post a photo.
