Update..... 2 years in and this car has been a hoot... mostly due to its impact on my social life.... good friends, great road trips as well as "interesting" conversations and support on Pelican. Definitely, the right tool for all around participation in the hobby.

My latest mechanical upgrade has prompted me to documenting my ownership journey. After all it was a Pelican purchase. A few months ago I was tempted by the dropping prices in modern GT3s to sell it; I am glad it never came together. Old sports saying some of the best trades are the ones that do not occur.

I should note I am a checkbook mechanic and there is a strong local shop I use. While they are not inexpensive, they are worth every dollar I spend. They like what they do and it shows in their attention to detail and workmanship. I was lucky enough to worked with Tony Gerace of TLG, a definable moment in my life. The experience with Paul and his business partner Peter at Performance Automotive is similiar in level of craftsmanship.

Tony (blue shirt) is at the end of the Trailer. We are picking up a 69S we restored....

To the Carrera.
The low hanging fruit; SW chip, Cat bypass, minor nagging repairs, tires all around, new 8s in the back moved 7s to the front, reset suspension, align and corner balance. Euro rear lenses, black headlight trim and a momo completed my first pass. Perfect for my inaugural road trip with mates to New Hampshire.

Is that the Mount Washington Resort in the background? There are certainly some great roads around here.

Club Motorsports is right off of RT 16 in Tamworth NH. Wonderful track. There's always a few G-body cars running with the local groups (NER/NCR).

Car looks great. What's in store for its future?

you could.
BUT: lowering below euro ride hight brings "problems"
- it could be that you'll have to roll the fender lip up front
- it will need a tasky reset of the torsion bars at rear (up front maybe also)
- it will need a full re-alignment
- if you'r going for 7s front/8s rear one day this again will need camber adjustment

I'd say: enjoy the ride hight as is now/first and maybe you'll have to adress more vital issues prior to going for looks... jus saying.

I have this all done on mine, didn’t realize it, and now I need the fender rolled. I must have hit a bump and pull iPod it down

The Targa version of yours.

86, new Konis, 8s/7s, Cat delete, SW, and some minor things to work out. I’m in love with this thing. I wrench n polish.

Of course the trip to NH was renewing to my hot rodder soul.

Over dinner I mentioned how I missed the turbo brakes from my 1973 3.2 T "Stitch"

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1574961145.jpg

Next thing, I know Tim had a set of brakes he had procured for a never launched project.... reasonably priced it became what the heck.......

Turbo brakes on an adequately braked car...... why? Because I can not guarantee an air-cooled 911 in the afterlife...... certainly not with Turbo brakes. Plus my mates drive infectious rigs.....

Monde's Euro 75 MFI 2.7, Doc's 964, Brotha Girt's 2002 are inspirational visions that push next level thinking.

Girt's 2002 is almost enough to make me worship at another church....

In 1986, this was an impressively equipped car so if it is installed it needs to work this meant the A/C need to work. Not necessarily because I used it but because I am full on nuerotic..... Back over to Paul.....

(how do you turn a picture?)

I feel it is important to keep your relationship professional with your mechanic as it is important to be able to hold them accountable to a high standard..... but it is tough these guys are enthusiastic as I am.....

Blows cold but not like a water cooled.

Battery died...... hmmm.... this can only mean one thing; Limited Slip Differential. It always bothered me the car was a slick top outfitted with spoilers and Sport Seats yet LSD was omitted.
Time to rectify the oversight.

Doc got the track itch and built a race car. In the process he changed out his just rebuilt 915 with LSD (less than a 1000 miles) for a track oriented transmission. Within three days transmission was shipped in from Atlanta

Doc Before:

915 w/ LSD safely installed in 86 Sports Purpose Carrera.

Motor fully serviced, valves adjusted, plugs changed, new battery, belts and a rebuild of the heating system. The refreshed 915 shifts cleanly now I need a tightly curved mountain road to try the limited slip.

Two years in and this 911 has renewed my passion no doubt....
