Source for wood shift knob bushing?
Does anyone know where I can purchase the insert or bushing that is required to install a wood shift knob on a stock 1973 911 shifter? I was given a nice wood knob as a gift but it is just a bare knob without any way to install it.
Thanks. |
shift knob install - crush bushing

There was a thread I read on here just this week that talked about this .
If I recall , it was a European guy that made his own balsa gear-knob and ended up using epoxy to bong an insert in . |
What diameter is there in the knob for a bushing?
The 915-shiftrod is 15mm, the G50 is 13mm with an M8 thread inside. Maye show pictures and measurements of your knob for further help |

We have been making wooden gearknobs for a few years now. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/924/7lMMC4.jpg We make an Aluminium sleeve with straight knurls which presses into the wood. They have the same ID as the original gear lever and we use a short tolerance ring to hold them onto the shaft. |
Thanks for the replies.
The opening in my knob is 14.44mm. I come up with a measurement for my shifter of 15.23mm. Chris, what size is the opening in your knobs to accept the sleeve that you make? I assume I would have to drill out the opening although I don't know how I would do that without damaging the wood. (that is if you would sell me one of your sleeves) As Flojo says, the shifter for a G50 is 13mm. Maybe my knob is for that and I should try to sell it and get the correct knob? Any other thoughts are appreciated.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1510093753.JPG |

widen the bore to16mm net and it should fit with crush sleeve like a charme. |

I still would attempt it if I could source the correct bushing or collar. I would certainly buy one from Chris if he would sell just a collar. |
