What needs to be enabled on the browser. I am using IE 5.5 SP2 and only see a blank frame and not the applet.

I'm behind a firewall as well and I cannot connect to your server. I would need the know the port numbers both source and destination as well as protocol IP, UDP, etc. To allow this connection to take place.
