Rear wiper - yes or no?

I want to go back to the original lid. What are the thoughts on the rear wiper. My new decklid does not have the hole for the wiper. Now I am not sure whether I should drill one in or leave the wiper off... What do you think?

The tail is for sale...:

I'd leave the rear wiper off, but then again, I don't need one where I live.

Two things come to mind, that I would consider in making a decision;
1. Do you ever use the wiper? You may miss it once it's gone.
2. Was it original to the car? I believe the rear wiper kit is hard to find & $$$ now, so if you sell now, may regret later.

You could always put it in a box in the garage for later disposition. I have boxes all over my garage like that...

Excuse my ignorance but I thought the wiper was only available on the coupe, didn't know it came on a targa, with that said if it was standard equipment I'd keep it. I always liked them on the coupes, looks a little odd on the targa, but I like odd.

I have a targa (with the same tail) without wiper and I have never ever thought: Hmm, now I would really like a rear wiper!

The concept of a rear wiper sounds more like an excuse to add one more thing on the options list.

They're good to have if you have any chance at all of getting stuck in rain.

My two cents,

I just think that they just look cool. I'm thinking of adding one to my coupe even though I live in So. Cal. We'll see.

I have them on a couple of cars and can count the number of times I've used them in 20-plus years on one hand.

You can always add it later.

911s look best sleek and smooth. The wiper does nothing but clutter up the lines. With the tail, it's not as bad because the lines are already cluttered up. But with a tailless decklid, the wiper will stand out even more. Can't see drilling a perfectly good decklid to reinstall that wiper.

EXACTLY! I daily drive mine and NEVER found it useful! I removed it to make room for a larger turbo intercooler (doesn't apply to yours). I keep the rear wiper parts bagged, up on a shelf in the garage...right next to the center console, the AC, the heat, the ugly War of the Worlds cyclops third brake light thingy, the double D rear bumper teets, factory exhaust parts, and countless other gems that I've removed! Let's just say the next owner will get plenty of spares...

Targa did come with optional rear wiper.

My Targa came stock with the rear wiper. I know because I have the original options sheet from the dealer.
Hear is a picture as well.

After owning my car for 1 year, I finally got sick of lifting the wiper up before opening the engine lid. Since I had no idea if the wiper even worked - NEVER used it - I removed mine & boxed it up. Not sure what good it would do if I did use it. I've got caught in the rain a few times, and it never seemed necessary - I mostly use the 2 exterior mirrors anyhow.

It did actually work - I tried it for the first time just before removing it.

Where is the switch for the wiper? It might be a slick place to put a switch for something else.

Secondly, there is a shot at 43:46 of "Le Mans" of a red 911 in the rain with the rear wiper in full force and it looks cool......thus if you drive in the rain I would keep it, if more of a show car or Sunday driver then nix it.
