No it’s very tough without the top numbers. There is a part number on the two case halves very easily seen from underneath that can help narrow it down some. I also think there may be a casting year underneath somewhere. I don’t think you will be able to determine whether it’s US spec, Japan or ROW without taking it all apart and a total expert looking at it. To clarify both the serial number and the case type number are missing?

Hi John..if it would be 2,7 it would have to have green engine cover not red..more likely 911sc motor
What year is the 911?The sticker(yellow) on top of the alternator housing is saying what?

Identifying an unknown motor........

John,

Without the engine number on the crankcase, I would investigate the external engine parts for forensic identification. If you could provide the part numbers for these:

a). Any trace of the engine type number located at right topside of the crankcase?
b). Alternator fan housing number?
c). Intake runners (2R or 4R)?
d). Information on the sticker (alternator strap)?
e). Rotational direction of the of the ignition distributor.
f). CIS components:
WUR
FD
AAR
Throttle body
Air flow meter
CDI
Ignition distributor
Etc.

The air filter cover is from pre-SC engines. Identify if the crankcase is made of Mg or Al. Putting all these informations together would help you come to a better conclusion. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Tony

73.5 will be a 2.4 on a 7R case. It the spirits were made larger on a rebuild one could install 2.7 p&c

Near the 901.101.101.7r case number "should" be a casting date mark. see if you can get a pic and post that. Then we might be able to say if it was originally a 2.4 or a 2.7. It might be an unstamped replacement block 2.7.
