Choosing car cover

I’m looking for an indoor car cover for a friend’s recently acquired 2011 911 as a gift.

The GarageGuard - “The Ultimate in Indoor Protection” from
Our host seems like the obvious choice for an indoor cover, but for almost 400 bucks, it should put itself on! 😯

The “Satin Stretch” model also from our host sounds nice and actually gets higher marks for softness and breathability than the The “Garage Guard Ultimate in Indoor Protection” model, but I wonder if it’s a pain to put on because it’s stretchy.

Can anyone who has experience with indoor covers give me some guidance?

Thanks.

If garage guard is the moving blanket material cover, I have it. It’s well made and fits perfectly but f’n heavy and it sheds (at least initially). Mine took a long time to ship as well.

Car cover.

I bought a Noah cover for our '86.

Very pleased.

Very likely, that you will pay about $250,
for a good product.

I bought a Covercraft Evolution indoor car cover nearly 7 years ago and it's still in great shape. Less than $200 then, and still less than $200 now.

I have read that car covers can cause paint scratching when used carelessly.

Why even bother?
Consider letting dust accumulate, and just rinseless washing it once in a while.
Entire car takes 10 minutes, and looks new again.

A car cover will reduce the odds of driving the car.
Path of least resistance.

Couldn't agree more. I found this to be exactly the case when I had a cover for my 911.

This isn't for my car; I'm helping a friend shop for her husband.

I went for a flannel cover - I wanted something extremely soft/gentle on the finish, yet was heavy enough to provide some protection in my busy house garage. I got a fitted one with mirror socks. Happy with it.

I agree with the 'let the dust settle' methodology.

But, if the car is resting in a garage that gets lots of traffic with kids and others moving skis and hockey equipment and the toboggan and Christmas decorations in and out, then perhaps a garage guard might be a decent choice if for no other reason than the mechanical protection it provides against dents and scuffs. Or get a simple, no frills cotton cover and lay a couple moving blankets on that for the whoopsie factor.

I have a Coverking with the dust shield. It has a decent weight to it to protect from carelessness. Right around that $250 mark.

I agree with the masses with the possibility of getting minor scratching when installing and removing a cover repeatedly. I only cover my car when down for a long winters rest.

You guys crack me up. You have more money than I have. I just went to Pep Boys and bought a generic car cover for my 911. $40!! No mirror cut outs but I just fold them in. Sits in my garage undisturbed and keeps dust off of it until I drive it. Costco sells them also. Good quality. My car is a 32 year old unrestored 911, I think the paint will be OK.

When I bought my car it came with a really nice fitted cover in the same color as my car. It's been taking up space in my trunk ever since.

Costco. $35. Has lasted 7 years so far. The car is spotless and ready to drive after taking less than a minute to remove. I just roll it off as a tube and set it aside to roll back on later.

Garage Guard is very heavy and cumbersome to put on and off. Unless you know that bicycles or ladders will be rubbing your car, I'd get a lighter weight version. My GarageGuard took forever to ship, like almost 6 months, and it came in wrong/different from what I ordered.

The cheapest one Pelican sells that goes on sale for $100 fits perfectly.

I have the satin cover. It has mirror pockets, hook it over the mirrors first and they hold it in place. Roll it out, hook the mirrors, stretch it over the hood, stretch it over the back and done. The elastic is a non issue but the black satin showing the curves may produce naughty thoughts.

I have been using car covers for 15 years.
Bought all of them here on Pelican.
Good covers , used properly do not harm the paint.
A good fitted cover from Pelican will be 250+ $
And is a good investment.

Nah...what if you have more than one car? Or multiple cars? Do you know how long it takes to put a car cover on, or off? One minute, maybe less. I have multiple covers.

I work in my garage on my cars. Grinding, cleaning, wrenching. I do other stuff in there too. Typical house repair stuff. It gets dirty in there. And anyway, I try not to wash my cars if I don't have to.

Get a nice flannel cover. Cost a few hundred bucks. The 2011 911 cost tens of thousands.

I have the red satin cover. My wife said ‘you bought lingerie for your car?’ It has faded slightly from sun exposer from the garage door windows over the past 8 years.

I have found that with car covers, the quality is in direct coloration to the price point.
