This could be interesting... A couple of my recent purchases were somewhat interesting.
In 1992 I purchased a grey market 1980 928. I was the third owner, the first being the Police commissioner of East Berlin. I was cleaning the rear seats one day and found many interesting items, including German currency and a small silver jewelry box containing about 6 or 7 men's watches. My '84 Cab was purchased from a guy who owned a whole slew of exotics, including Lambos, Ferraris, etc. My car was his grocery getter. He had just spent over $5,000 on the stereo in it. ------------------ Let's Roll! ------------------------- -Richard '84 Carrera Cabriolet '74 911 Widebody 3.6 Project My Porsches |

I'm third owner of mine. Bought it from a widow that had driven it about 3K miles since 1993 as it reminded her of husband. She gave me a copy of the 911 resto book by Brett Johnson and showed me nice letter from him and various pics in the book where the car had been featured. She also showed me all the bills for engine rebuild (6K) and complete tranny overhaul (7K!!!). Who in their right ****** mind would rebuild a 2 liter and a 901 sportomatic!!!! She said she had to do it because she loved the car and I suppose I do too.......

Yeah,
The guy I bought my car from is a painter, and the car was his daily driver. The Momo stearing wheel that came on the car had paint specks all over it. And the original owner did all the things I would have done to a unmolested 911. (drilled rotors, bigger t-bars, tower brace, etc..) That's the history of my 911. ------------------ Matt Chamblin 78 911 SC |

I bought my '67 911 the first time in 1971. Had it for 4 years, got married/kids and had to sell it in 1975. Then in 1990, I bought the same car back again and restored it. It had passed through 2 owners since I first owned it. Mine for keeps now!

I'm the third owner of my car. Records show that a Korean couple bought it new in 1986, my father-in-law in 1988. Some of the interesting finds during clean up were several match books from *adult* establishments around the NW, many of which I frequented myself, in my younger days.
Havent' brought that one up with the father-in-law.....yet. That's about it except the $15 to $20 in spare change....that's worth at least 8-10hp right? ![]() |

3rd owner, bought it from a guy who got a new job and the commute was killing him due to the legwork of the clutch. Papers show its unmolested and a pure California car. I'm bummed, no money or anything of interest found

My car has mostly verbal History, some when it was new. I've know it in friends hands, since it's been in the UK - it was in Germany, then the US, then the UK. When it was first in the UK it belonged to a guy who had a successful chain of Hairdressers in London. He went out of business and then "resorted" to restoring Classic cars (at the boom of it in the UK, when everybody wanted their old MG Midget restoring because it would be worth a fortune in a years time), and, being a male prostitute....specializing in S&M, I'm told.
He worked at a friend of mine's Garage - car resto. place. One day he just said to my friend, "I'm off", sold him the 911 and was never seen again - he also lived in a Caravan on the premises. He sold it to another friend of mine, and now I have it. So locally, my car (it's lime green) might have the prior image of being seen parked outside of many places doing some "unusual" business. Nice ehh....? Anyone seen "American Gigolo"? ------------------ '75 911S Targa '81 BMW Alpina C1 2.3 |

How about traveling a few hundred yards on its roof at high speed? Mine did that while in its prime, and was repaired only because it is a Carrera 3.0 (a 911 or s of same vintage would have been scrapped). The car was repaired, all the points match on the jig, but some smaller details were not done too well-all corrected now.
Also, EVERY POrsche I bought had pieces of windows inside, and pieces of slicks on the suspension... "never wrecked, never taken on a track".... Yeah, whatever. GeorgeK |

I am the second owner of the 1978 SC Targa that I now own. The previous owner was a Mechanical Engineer, owned his owned HVAC business, supported a 75' houseboat on the lake along with his P-car.
However, drinking became a problem - he lost his business, 75' houseboat, and eventually ended up in jail on DUI for about three years. I met him while working with a former employer and he mentioned the car - said he wanted to get it running. As time went on he gave up and asked me if I was interested in purchasing it. We made the deal and this is what I bought. During his intenment, the car sat neglected for about three years out in the weather. The top was dry rotted, the interior (leater) was dried out and cracked everywhere, the engine was seized up and parts were missing. It only had 71,000 miles on it. He did however, maintain it while he was a free man - gave me all the records and receipts. Rebuilt the engine, refurbished the interior, new top and paint job. Just wish he was here today to see it. I purchased my car from the original owner.(944S2: I know: the engine's in the wrong place!) Carfax verified it: only one registration record. He had it dealer maintained. I have 23 PAGES of ALL the service records from the dealer. If there was a bump, creek or rattle, he had it in to be looked at. He never raced, autocrossed or DE'd the car.
Last summer (2000), he spent $4000 on: new exhaust, clutch, brakes, new windshield, to name a few items. Not too many extra goodies with the car: 2 winter tires in decent shape, and a brake lightbulb: that came in handy when my rear brake light went out last weekend! Oh yeah, a few credit card receipts too. (Anyone want some numbers?!?! Just kidding!) Needless to say, I am very happy with my babied car! (Oh, I have autox'd and DE'd it already! It would be a shame not to! ![]() -Z. ------------------ PCA NNJR My Toy: |

My 1970 911T had reciepts dating back to 1975 in which the car had 7900 miles. I called a couple of previous owners and talked with them. They were very glad to get an update on the car. Included was an ad when it was for sale in Texas 2 owners back and also a copy of the ad in Excellence when it was sold to the previous owner.
My 1986 944 was a one onwer and of course had all records including the MSRP sticker. Sold it when I got the 911T. |

I first saw the car in Feb 1973. I was at the dealer having work done on my '71T. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Brand new, 73S Targa, black, red leather interior, wheel arch molding, through the grill driving lights, etc. The lucky owner was picking it up the next day. Four years later I saw it listed for sale. We went to look and bought it. My wife used it as her daily driver for work, car pool, etc. I got the weekends. In 1983 our son was approaching 16 and we couldn't have that car around. I sold it to a friend of my sister with the condition that if she ever wanted to sell I got first shot. I kept up with the car over the years- visiting it and driving it about once a year. In 1999 ( by then I had a '97 Boxster) she called ready to sell. I drove it back from LA to Alabama. What fun! By now it seems like it's always been with me. Brings back old memories. I still think it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Found my car on the internet four years ago. It was sitting in the McAllen Tx area. No dealerships anywhere near this place and just a local garage to do maintenance.
Owned by a teacher/doctor and driven only on weekends. Receipts from day one, I am the second owner, it had 62k on it when purchased. Records show lots of problems with the car, and almost all of them due to its not being driven enough. The alternator and battery was changed every couple of years, but the real problem was its sitting in the garage and not being driven on a regular basis! Interesting reason why I ended up with the car. The owner wanted to give it to his son when he turned 18. He offered it to the son three times and each time the kid said no, so the Dad sold it and bought a new BMW cabrio... Can you imagine YOUR Father asking you if you wanted a 911 Porsche at age 18??? Idiot child that he was, I love the car and other than a clutch, have had very little problems with the car since I purchased it. JA |

Got my 964 1994 factory wide body coupe from a friend here in Taiwan in January this year who had pampered it for 2 years - never out in the rain etc only did 2,000 miles in it. It had 9400 on when I bought it but no service history or independant inspection (tut tut - I know). Turns out it was given to the first owner as a graduation present in California and immediately it imported back to Taiwan where it sat for about 5 years doing only 7000 miles - spoilt child I think.
After I bought it I found out the local main dealer knew the car from "birth" and happily reprinted the entire service history for me and stamped the maintenance book up to date. Apparently no one previously had thought this was important. |

My attorney had my car and I always loved it - as I knew he did. One day I ran into him in the bar of a restaurant - having just ogled the car outside (rare occasion as he never drove it much in town). After having a few drinks and talking cars - he had a Viper and a 356 replica at the time - I said I would buy the car if he ever sold it.
Flash forward 2 years to last November - and he calls me out of the blue and asks me if I want it. I reply YESSSS. Never discuss $$ or anything and I have never driven the car. There is snow on the ground so we decide to do the deal when the roads are better. The roads didn't get better until March - 5 agonizing months later. As a side note I went home and told my wife and she said "you did what? - how much was it" - me "uh, I don't know but we will work it out" - her "well don't you think we should have talked about it first" - me "well - uh I guess - but two years ago in a bar I told him I would buy it if he ever sold it - I couldn't go back on my word" - her "your crazy - but I guess this means I can get an in-ground pool" He got the car from the original owner's father. The original owner was in the military and took delivery in Germany. Shipped it back to the states but was stationed overseas and never drove it - so he wanted to sell it. It had the major service records with it - but not all of the little stuff. My attorney bought a Countach was in the shop all summer with electrical problems - he really misses the Porsche. I love it - it is an unbelievable car. I took it for about an 80 or 90 miles last night and had a blast. Jeb '79 930 |
