Post Want brighter gauges at night?

I just had my gauges disassembled and repainted the inner metal ( the back cup ), and cleaned them. Now I can see everything easy at night.

Is there an "inner cup" that holds the gauge mechanism? Is this what you are refering to, if so what color did you paint it? Did you use that reflective aluminum paint?

Itīs the inner part of the back side of the gauge, that goes inside the dash....I painted it white....thatīs the color it looked like it was when new.
Before I couldnīt read my RPM so well....now they are very clear, very bright.
Tried changing bulbs before, it improved a bit, but nothing like now....

What's the best tool to use in getting the O-rings off without scratching the dash? -- Curt

Slide the whole gauge assembly out before you go popping the metal snap-rings that hold the glass in. There's a special tool for freeing up the snap-ring, but patience and a small flat screwdriver will get them, too.

So, should I be able to slide the gauge out just by getting my fingernails on each side of the O-ring and gently pulling? I tried this once and it didn't seem to want to come out too easily??

Open the "bonnet" and reach up past the brake reservoir till you can feel the back of the gauges. Now push them out. Easier and less chance of damaging the rubber gasket or bending your nails backwards.
