x-faktory 73 w/3.2 EFI/ITB project

I recently installed a new EFI system on this beautiful 73 911. The engine was a stock 3.2 w/Motronic etc. All of that was replaced with PMO ITBs and an AEM/Infinity (Rasant) engine control system. It is being shipped back to its rightful owner (Steve S.) next week, just in time for Christmas. I really like this 911 and the engine is really running strong and the throttle response is awesome. Here's a video of the 1st start and then....a video after tuning (taken this morning)

First start: (Dec 6)

After tuning: (Dec 17)

regards,
al

Al, love your work. The self-closing lid is a nice feature too!

Erik....it is a nice one. Running very well, but I provided Steve with the contact info for the dyno tuner you used.....so he can have them squeeze out the most performance.

regards,
al

It sounds and looks great!

I am actually quite pleasantly surprised to see more Porsche's using AEM Infinity. It's definitely a great product. I'm currently running an AEM Series 2 on one of my other cars and am happy with it. If I were to be extremely nit-picky, I would say the only issue is a slight half second delay in throttle response. I'm not sure if you guys experience this on your Infinity EMS though... wondering if mines is a tuning issue.

Eric,
Tip-in is an area that always seems to require some tuning. I would say that you should be able to tune out that hesitation by adding/subtracting some acceleration enrichment. Throttle response on this one is great.

Al, have you done a 3.0->3.2/3.3 SS twin plug setup with your ITBs and the Rasant system?

I've watched a few of your videos and noticed that rpm's seem high at idle, am I mistaken or is that how they run?

Tim,
I have provided EFI kits (ITBs with AEM/Rasant) configured for twin plug, to others....but I have not installed a dual plug version myself yet.

al

Jax,
Many of the videos are cold starts and are idling very high. Last few videos of the blue 73 were taken when it was 30F temp.

However, I do typically set the idle anywhere from 1000-1200 RPM.....which is higher then your typical CIS or Motronic engine..........the ITBs seem to like it there.

regards,
al

As my dear old Irish Grandmother would say..."Al, lad....as you go through life...let no gaping hole go unfilled!" Coincidence....I think not!.

Al,

Can’t wait for the arrival at my house sometime later in the day on Saturday. You’ve been great to work with throughout the entire project.

For any of you out there considering such a conversion, I highly recommend utilizing Al’s talents! Al also coordinated having my SSI’s and new Dansk Sport muffler ceramic coated at a nearby shop during the process.

Erik, I already have an appointment set up at TurboHoses for next Wed at 9am for the dyno tuning to dial it in to perfection, although from the sound of it, Al has got it pretty close already! You and Dale should swing by if you’ve got the time since I will be in your neck of the woods for the tuning.

Thanks Steve,

I was glad to be part of the project. The 73 you bought is a really nice 911 and the adder of the EFI/ITB system just makes it even more fun. And Saturday.....you actually get to see it and drive it...in person. You've got to be excited! It's running very well and based on the great results Erik experienced at TurboHoses, they will dial it in perfectly.

As you are receiving your 911, on Saturday...Rick (RSBob), one of my local buds, will be bringing his 911SC to the x-faktory......for a EFI/ITB system install.......work,work,work........

regards & happy holidaze

al
