Push start button
 
I have a 1984 Porsche 9211 3.2

I am installing a push start button in the same location of my existing hazard switch without having to drill any holes on my dash.

I want to relocate the hazard to another location. The hazard switch has about 10 pins and coupled to the socket harness. The whole switch is quite long to have it installed at another location (yet to be decided)

I am assuming that 8 of these pins belong to :

2 front indicator lamps
2 side markers
2 rear indicator lamps
2 green lamps on the dash

The other 2 might be the positive and neg feeds


Question

I want to leave the hazards taped underneath the dash and have a small latching switch to remotely activate the original hazard switch by passing a feed to the two (neg and pos) pins (not yet identified) to simulate a push on the original hazard switch

Is this possible/doable ?

Anyone can help with the switch schematic ?

Check the rules for your country's yearly inspection first.

In the UK, the hazard light must have an indicator bulb and it must flash.

Interesting project. I’m wondering—-

What needs to be done to make this work? (I’m assuming you’re planning to make it work like current day push-to-start cars)

Will you retain the key and steering wheel lock?

Will you do something to prevent starting when in gear?

Curious... sounds like a neat addition.

I don't have a schematic, but when I relocated my hazard switch to under the dashboard (along with the defroster button) I found it easiest to just extend all the wires. This allowed me to remove my center console for a cleaner look.

Yes, just want to save the ignition switch from more strain/wear

Will you do something to prevent starting when in gear?

Would be nice to have, don't think there is a solution for that. Modern cars require your clutch pedal to be engaged to start for that very reason

Chuck,

I thought about separating the switch from the harness plug and extending the wires between the male and female spades, but the actual switch is still too bulky (read over engineered)

I left the hazard switch in place and used the factory blank directly right of the steering column for the start button. I did disengage the steering lock and had the electrics routed to a master electrical switch a la' race prep under the dash as my ignition failed.

I relocated my hazard switch under the dash using a small bracket I made...basically just swung under and up - post #65-67 on this page:

Hi Guys

Need some help, how do I remove the hazard harness, I need to relocate the switch and the cable has no give.

Where can I expect to find the round plug with six pins

Might be easier to simply cut and slice in extra length wires in the middle of that harness. By offsetting the cuts in the different wires and using shrink wrap over the newly extended wire connections, it should make a nice, safe e tended harness.

The harness, being very short, goes right to the front bulkhead near the switch. There are five or more bulkhead connectors there, so pick the correct one! Get on your back on the floor and look up and you should see them.

From an earlier car, but these things tend to remain the same:

"From another post on the subject, Jim75911S identifies the bulkhead connections on his 1975:

"On my 75 911 the plugs go as follows. Starting on the top left w/top being towards windshield and left being towards drivers door #1 headlight switch #2 emergency flasher.

Next row below -#1 ? #2 wiper switch #3 ignition switch. I did not mark #1 on the lower row, when reconnecting put the one that is left over here.""

You can see the emergency flasher switch at the top center, the diode in the center-left and the bulkhead connector the arrow is pointing to.

Hi

Switch relocated to the tunnel on the drivers seat rail

Some may not approve, but I had to make space for my push start button.
